Default Best AV software?

I've been slacking a little lately on the anti-virus front and need to kick it in gear again. I'd like something that's relatively cheap (or free!), low maintenance and reliable. I'm running Windows XP. Any suggestions?

The best by the certifiers is the NOD 32 by Eset, i used AVG personal from Grisoft before i switched to Linux, it scored low from certifiers but it did the job, i compared NOD32 and AVG and they both recognized same viruses. I only don't know how would they score on new viruses, i think NOD would find most of them but AVG is constantly advancing and it's absolutely free for personal usage. Besides of that you should have a good firewall software like Kerio or Comodo firewall, and a Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock plugins - NoScript is especially useful because it stops malicious scripts to implant viruses and trojans in your computer.

Hope this helps.

go to antivirus.com

Be prepared to set aside a couple of hours to completely scan your computer and then fix any problems found...

and the best thing? it's free!

I second NOD32. It's really effective and totally unobtrusive.

And once in a while, use Spyware Doctor in Windows' safe mode. It will find more malware than most other programs.

My vote is for Symantec Corporate version 10.

It does spyware and antivirus. It also is very streamlined and unobnoxious.
