Default Wanted: Tool to manage notes, ideas and stuff

I am writing down a lot of things, ideas, plans and information.
(Many ideas and nothing gets done, you know this.)
I am looking for a freeware or shareware tool to manage this.
Requirements:
+ Text
+ Embedded images (in text)
+ Hyperlinks
+ Hierarchical structuring of information (tree/folder-structure)
- I don't need time planning functionality.

I am using a small shareware tool right now, but it's getting too limited the more data i put into.
Thought of doing it using HTML pages, but that's probably too awkward.

I know that this is not the advice you are soliciting for but I recommend you invest some money into mind mapping software. I've tried a few but Mind Manager is by far the most useful I've found.

I feel that I am able to completely collect, organize and visualize my ideas with this software. I was easily able to justify the expense as money I couldn't afford not to spend. Freeware and Shareware use represents to me a time in my life when my level of commitment to my goals was underdeveloped and partially functional, just like the software I was hoping to utilize.

regards,

Thanks for the recommendation, looks like a great tool.
Seems more/different than what i need.
And the price is way too high for me.
Probably will use some Wiki system.

I'd check out some of the many web 2.0 type services. BackPack offers free service (www.backpackit.com). I do a lot of what you describe in the Planzo web based calender service (www.planzo.com). Plenty of options out there--just do some research. I'll track down a link to a directory of web 2.0 services and I'd be surprised if you can't find something you like.
