Korean based web hosting?
I am looking for a new webhosting service for my business. It will host our website and extranet.
One of the selection criteria that I'm struggling with is that the server must be physically located in Korea: in my experience it's the only place that had an acceptable ping when accessed from everywhere my business operates (South East Asia, Far East and China, China being the biggest offender in terms of poor web access. We work from remote industrial areas so your experience of accessing the web from downtown Shanghai may not be the same as mine).
Which webhosting services do you know that let you choose your server location?
Do you know of a good webhosting service located in Korea?
Any other solutions that could bypass my ping timeout problem?
Thanks a lot!
I don't have any specific recommendations, but I think you will need a Korean citizen's ID. Their law requires that with any websites, and even any posting in forums or Youtube, that your national ID number is collected. As far as journalistic and free speech rights go, they were rated among the lowest of developed countries by Reporters Without Borders.
Have you looked into hosting in Taiwan or was that not viable? It's geographically closer to your markets.
Ah, that sucks. So the hosting would need to be registered under the name of a Korean national? Even if the business is legally established as a Korean company?
I'll ask my colleagues in China to test how well they can access taiwanese servers.
Thanks for your help Scipio!
The Chinese Firewall slows down traffic that goes over the Chinese border.
That's why Google was physically located in China and there was the debate about Google leaving China. If you could just host outside of China and get a reasonable Ping in China Google wouldn't have had the trouble of physically being in China.
When Google moved "outside" of China they moved their servers to hong kong.
Maybe Hong Kong is a good location for you as well?
Depending on the money you are willing to pay it might also be worthwhile to have two servers. One in China and one outside of China and let those two sync with each other.
I was looking for the same thing . The only company I came across was Internet Brothers Korea.
