| Yes this is the right forum. My beloved 'Blackwyrm' PC fried herself unexpectedly last night. Rest in peace. The sickly sweet scent of burning electonics the first indication that something was wrong. Followed by a bzzt bzzt blink, and off went the monitor. The poor old girl had been a through a lot, several upgrades, a complete refit, even had her case modded several years ago when I was into all that stuff. Having survived moving house at least 6 times, including a trip to Japan on a ship, I thought nothing could bring her down. Oh how we do not appreciate our own mortality. I should have known something was up when the random crashes happenned the last two days. But I was busy and neglected her. Was this her cry for attention? I had been spending most of my time recently on my newer PC, as it was faster bigger and more powerful in every respect. Did I not love her enough????? On a serious note. I am not sure it's worth trying to replace the damaged components. Everything in there is a bit old, and held together largely with hope, cable ties and chewing gum. I just hope the raid controller is alright so I can at least get my info off the hard drives... Might be time to put the old girl to rest, and start completely fresh. Anybody got any thoughts or reccomendations on a new PC? I might even be open to a laptop or *gasp* a Mac *spits ferociously to clean mouth* if anyone can give me a good enough reason. Sadly I am not as nerdy as I once was and not up to date on what the current tech is.
