Hi, I am experiencing computer problems. I have a Trojan, from downloading a free trial, I think. Anyway, it is a very intelligent little guy, because it won t let me start my computer in SAFE MODE, nor will it let me access the Admin side of my puter. So now I am accessing the net as a Guest on my own computer, and am unable to execute any spyware detector or REG cleaner once downloaded, I tried to clean the REGISTRY in regular mode, as a guest, but it won't let me erase the problematic file/program(s) that are causing the problem, since I have no admin authorization. I do not have a XP restore C.D, and I tried to do a WINDOWS.R to reconfigure upon rebooting, but it simply won't let me get into any SAFE MODE OR DOS MODE. When I enter my admin password, it lets me go to my admin side for about 5 seconds and then reboots, only to let me access my admin side again and then reboot. I need a few computer wiz angels to help me out. Thanks. |

Are you sure it's a Trojan? Could have be something messing with your drivers, anyway I've recently had a similar problem. It was my laptop, turned of my wireless card and everything booted fine. When you are rebooting press the "F8" or "F10" key and select the option to "restore from the last now configuration" If you need a boot disk: Bootdisk.Com |

Got a boot disk from bootdisk.com, but can t get the computer to reboot from C: . The positive thing is that I am learning a bit more about DOS, trying to get this computer to boot. I am tenacious and the last thing I want is to get my computer to a shop, have them work on it for 5 minutes and charge me hundreds of dollars for it, plus I don t want to lose my data. I appreciate your assistance. |

If you don't have another computer but have another hard drive you could do the same(or make another partition if you can). And you could burn a disk that'll let you look at your files. Modern computer can boot from flash drives but I'm not sure how to use them to do that. You could back data up to it though. UBCD for Windows (you'll need a drive that can write disks, a blank disk, and maybe some software) Also, DOS can't read NTFS file systems unless you use some other software for it(but you might be using FAT32, but probably not).

In the future you should keep Windows in its own partition, so that if something like this ever happens again you can format the Windows partition and reinstall it without losing any data.

I ended up giving my computer to a student at the nearest university, he charged me 30 dollars and saved all my data, I feel good knowing that my ignorance/ lack of preparation will reward someone's knowledge. Seems like a win-win situation. I appreciate your assistance. |
