Practice, The best way is just to start building a website. You will find that you need to alter some things and you will find a way, by tutorials and more to do so. Wordpress and Joomla are great ways to start. Load one of them up and GO! Learning code only, might get you bored. So just start and fix along the way! |

This is something I'm also trying to get my head around. I hope to someday become a freelancer but in the meantime I want to create Rails apps as a hobby. I would recommend looking at the following sites though: London web designers Scratchmedia London web design agency Creating a CSS layout from scratch : Subcide HTML and CSS Tutorials, References, and Articles | HTML Dog W3Schools Online Web Tutorials |

If you're interested in the design part of websites, rather than the coding (for which there are any number of useful sites) the best way is to find sites you like and try and figure out why you like them. Pay careful attention to colours, layout, use of font/images etc. But, be careful, the problem is that sometimes the nicest sites are not very effective. There are a number of tips that also form part of good effective web design. I'll have a look and see if I can find the design blogs I used to follow. I was sure I had them bookmarked but can't seem to locat them. |

Hi Daredevil, I'm a web developer for a living, and I just started a site to help people learn how to design/code web pages: Learn Web Code So far, I have a few HTML lessons, and I plan on adding a few CSS lessons over this weekend. I plan on adding a few entires every week, and before long you should be able to learn everything about front-end coding from my site (so you can subscribe if you want But enough shameless self-promotion. If you want to learn about web "Design" in the sense of design principles; balance, color, etc... I recommend you visit the site css Zen Garden: The Beauty in CSS Design. The designs on that site are beautiful and are all coded the "correct" way. Best wishes, EasyBlue |
