Default Weird HTML Bug

Hey guys.

I've got this weird bug on one particular HTML page on my site.

All of the ' appear to have been replaced with ’

You can see the problem here: Healing Sun Rays

I've tried rebuilding the page in two separate page editors, with no improvement. The characters look fine in the editor, but change when uploaded.

Anyone know what might be going on and how I can fix it?

Thanks.
-Andrew

The character in question looks similar, but it is slightly different to a normal apostrophe. Easiest way to remove them is find one of the offending apostrophes, highlight it, then do a find & replace across the whole documents with the correct apostrophe character.

Hmm. Could you say more about exactly what software you're using? Which editors and FTP client, etc.

The ' in the post is just a normal character so I can't think of any reason why it'd gaff up.

Another annoying but possible workaround is to use ' instead. This should display as ' on the page in the browser.

I've tried Kompozer and Seamonkey. The FTP is done though SBI, which hosts my site.

I can do that, but what do I replace them with? As far as I'm aware, I'm hitting the ' key already. What else can I put in its place?

I think he means edit the files in a plain text editor which should hopefully be less prone to altering characters on its own.

Off the top of my head, I would guess that whatever you're using to as a text editor is using the "fancy" angled quotes, as opposed to the regular vertical ones.

So your solution is going to be to: disable using angled quotes in your editor, use a different text editor, or (as Lawliet said) replace all apostrophes with '

These are from Microsoft Word and they do this since they are different than html apostrophes. Note that I have them at the bottom of this page: Sunlight: Is It Good or Bad For You? Like mentioned above, they are the angled ones instead of the straight ones.

They come from copying this email that I received. It will not happen with a good html editor like Front Page or Dreamweaver.
