Hey you technical geniuses out there -- I've got Windows Millenium on my PC so I had to download iTunes to Danger Man's PC (it won't download to my millenium.) I would like to backup my whole iPod library to my own PC, and also be able to play the songs on my own PC/home theater system. I'm as new as can be to this whole iPod thing. Would you help me? Thanks! Angela |

There are two ways: the "hackish" way is to set your computer to show hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders). Go to your iPod, iTunes Control, and copy everything in your Music folder. Probably not the best way, since your filenames are undecipherable garbage. A better way is to use YamiPod, which gives you a lot of flexibility in what you export and how you export it. |

I agree; the exact directions to show you how to get songs from ipod to computer are here, but they do produce weird gibberish names: http://www.cnet.com/4520-7899_1-6477981-1.html I found it was easy and very doable, but I was looking for one album in particular so it was a nightmare. Maybe since you are backing up the whole library you'll be ok. I also backed up my music by copying my music to an external hardrive or you can use one of those little memory sticks. Put the memory stick in the other computer, copy the music, and then put the stick in your computer and copy to your hard drive. |

The best way I've found is via the WinAmp plug in ml_ipod. You'll have to have Winamp installed (which you can get at winamp.com). Then get the plug in here: ml_ipod: Love llamas, Hate DRM. |
