I use Blue Host- I have only contacted them twice (was having Wordpress issues) and their customer service was fabulous. Really swift- problem solved within 24 hours!

Hey thanks!

The reason I'm asking actually is that on my current server, clicking around on the wordpress user interface is extremely slow, which annoys me a lot. The culprit is not the internet connection, other pages load quickly. But I don't know if it's the webhost or if it's wordpress.

Has anybody experienced such a slow wordpress as well? If yours is fast, what's your webhost?

I like mediatemple myself... Customer service has always been top notch. A few bucks more in price though. Really nice interface and huge knowledge base. Quick installs on wordpress, zen cart, and drupal...

I heard Bluehost is the most dependable, though I've never used it.

OK, I haven't tried these guys yet, but the Gandi.net service looks really cool. It's a cloud service, so if you ever need more processing speed, (or bandwidth or anything) you can just add another share to your account. You can install anything you want on the machine. I use Gandi for all my domain registrations, and LOVE 'em for that.

I use HostGator - happy so far and it has lots of features like 1-click install of WordPress and other applications/tools.
And for EverydayImprovement.com I still use AlphaMegaHosting (Dutch company). I'm thinking of migrating this site to HostGator because it's cheaper and I can host multiple domains at HostGator.

Don't touch STREAMLINE.NET with a 12 foot pole.

They're customer service sucks, their prices are crazy, they're unreliable, and their ftp crashes. Wordpress runs slow as hell and to rub it all in, they don't even give refunds.

I don't like to badmouth people but when a company is this bad people need to know. They cannot be allowed to run their business in this way.

I've used DreamHost since 2001, and while they used to be good, I feel they've been slowly going down hill. In the last year I've had more trouble with them than usual. Mail problems, servers crashing and having the whole site moved, extremely slow ftp upload speeds (while rsync was fast) and more. Their support is ok though, and they tend to resolve problems within a day.

I kind of dislike that they advertise with unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth now too, as it's simply an oversell and they can't possibly live up to it. It also attracts people that need lots of bandwidth, and puts more stress on the servers, slowing down the rest of us. If I were to dump say, 65Tb on my site, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't accept it. My monthly fee is not even enough to pay the powerbill for running the raids needed to contain 65Tb, let alone buying the storage itself. :P

So I second ellie....I'm kind of sorry to say.

I have LunarPages, and I love them.

Unlimited domains, tons of perks, a crapload of space, and very low price (I think I got a special a while ago).

I use Doreo. They don't oversell like HostGator et al. Although I can't comment on their support, I haven't used their support even once since I started an account with them last September (yeah, I'm a geek)...

Unlike others, I have to say I've had very good experiences with Dreamhost (particularly for the kind of thing it sounds like you're after). Their one-click install of WordPress is great, and their customer service has always been impressively friendly and responsive.

Before their space/bandwidth became "unlimited", I only used a tiny fraction of what they gave me: I'd imagine this is the same for the majority of users, which is why they can advertise it as "unlimited" - similar to many ISPs. I run three blogs, a forum site and several small websites on the one Dreamhost account.

I've got a review of them on my site if that helps: Dreamhost review

They also have a green/carbon-neutral policy, if that sways you at all.

Good luck finding a great host, and good luck with your (presumably?) blogging ventures!

Ali

Default My Choices!

I use Bluehost for several web sites I manage and it is capable of hosting several different domains. The price is under $10.00 per month. The exact cost is determined by how long a contract you are willing to sign.

For higher volume sites I use a VPS at Servint. If you need this much power you are happy to pay the price as you should be getting your message out and monetizing your site if that is your goal.

I have worked with customer service and technical support at both companies and have received good quality service.

I've used Bluehost, Hostmonster, Dreamhost and MediaTemple ... My deals with DH and MT are much better but then I pay much more.

For what you pay, BH and HM are pretty good.
