Default Second Life

Hi

Is anyone a member of second life?

I thinking of learning the LSL scripting language and want to know if anyone is an expert here or sells on second life?

I'm not a member, but I read a really interesting article (I think in Wired or Business 2.0) about entrepreneurs on Second Life who are making a living buying and selling virtual land and goods. Blows my mind

Fantastic isn't it.

In the christian monitor, they profiled a guy that has a first job as a photographer and sells clothing in second life. He made $100k in 1 year on there and another guy who in real life is a factory worker, designed a script to allow the avators to hug and do other more intimate things He made $90k in one year and has quit the day job.

Very inspirational. That's what I want to do

If I were you I'd exercise a great deal of caution with Second Life. Check out this article which heavily criticizes Second Life's economy. Perhaps the most important thing to be aware of is that Linden Research does not back the Linden Dollars with any guarantee of exchange to real money. Also, the article says that people can do things like start up banks, collect a lot of money and then just disappear without any repercussions.

Quote:
you can seldom trust those with whom you’re doing business in SecondLife. Even supposedly well established, well regarded business citizens are prone to defaulting on any obligations which prove inconvenient. Whole banks will disappear over night, along with your L$ balance. Private businesses will simply refuse to make good on financial contracts. And individuals, pretty much all of whose real world identities are carefully guarded anonymous secrets, sometimes even will openly default, without recourse.

I've messed around in SecondLife--I find the concept of a thriving "virtual" economy that allows "currency conversion" to real money fascinating. I have some theoretical misgivings of my own about the SL economy, but if you pick up that sort of thing easily there's no real reason *not* to learn the scripting language.

BTW, the newest issue of "Inc" has a cover story about the SL economy that's pretty interesting. I just got it in the mail and it should be on newsstands soon...
