Default Is Javascript required for Google Adsense?

I'm reading a book that says you paste Javascript code into your website for Adsense.

My host supports Wordpress, php and MySql but does not support Javascript.

Must I find another host?

Well, as I understand it, your host shouldn't have anything to do with it. It's your visitors' web browsers that will need to support Javascript.

JavaScript is client side. In plain English this means it's interpreted by the web browser, just like HTML. On the other hand PHP is server side, which means it's interpreted by the server. The server then creates HTML output which is sent over to the browser. The browser never sees any of the PHP code. That's why your host has to support PHP for you to use it. MySQL is a database system which also has to run on the server. So your host is fine.

Sounds like good news.

Is ALL Javascript client side?

What about other scripting languages like Perl, VBScript, etc.? Which are server side vs. client side and how does one know?

JavaScript has been adapted for server side use, but you wouldn't use it the same way as it's used client side. VBScript is the only other client side scripting language for web browsers, and it only works in Internet Explorer. The others used for the web are all server side: PHP, ASP, Perl, Ruby, Python, etc.. The only way to know what's what is probably through experience. And reading a lot.
