Thumbs up Your fav RSS aggregator

Post your favourite RSS/Atom feed aggregator. It doesn't matter whether it's hosted (online) or desktop software. Also please state what you like about it.

I am currently using Thunderbird, but it doesn't handle large number of feeds very well. I have about 100 blogs and it's really slows down my whole computer when I do an update. I think the reason is that it's multithreads all 100 blogs and checks them all at once.

For some odd reason I am not too keen on trusting Google with my data. Yes, I wear tin foil hats

Hah. Me too. But I have a sneaking suspicion that the list of news feeds that I read isn't important. To anyone. Ever.

FeedDemon. I prefer a rich client over a web-based aggregator. And it syncs with NewsGator online so if I am away from my laptop, I can still read my feeds.

I use Google Reader at work because I can't access Bloglines on the job. GR has improved, but it's still a little slow for me. Bloglines lets you email individual posts within each feed with two clicks. Your feeds automatically renew every five minutes. Similar to Amazon's, "...people who bought this, also bought..." model, Bloglines reviews your feeds and makes suggestions on what other feeds you might like. Bloglnes is also free.

Google Reader will improve, but Bloglines is the straw that stirs the drink for me.

I started out with FeedDemon, and then moved to Bloglines. But the recent changes to Bloglines really slowed down Firefox for me, so I switched to Google Reader and am absolutely in love with it. I find that I'm able to go through all my feeds in far less time using Google Reader - great for the blogging end of things!

I'm a big fan of Google Reader. Simple, intuitive, effective, the usual Google quality.

After the recent changes, Bloglines started causing "hiccups" in my browsing experience. I rely on tab browsing all the time (I've got about 50 tabs open right now ), and with Bloglines, things would actually stop for a few seconds and I wouldn't able to do a thing - couldn't click anywhere, close a tab, nothing. It didn't last very long, but it was long enough to be annoying.

I don't use an installed Aggregator.
I use Netvibes.
It is a simple web dashboard where you can read your feeds, emails and also store your bookmarks so you can access these information anywhere with a internet access.

I'm a Google Reader man myself. The new interface threw me a little, but I am getting the hang of it.

Don't think there's much of a privacy concern in storing public feed data.

I use Newshutch. They debutted sometime earlier this year and were recommended by 37 signals, so I tried it out and have loved it since. I tried Google Reader once, couldn't enjoy it, ditched it, haven't tried version two. Tried Thunderbird, too; same. Not having any significant problems with Newshutch, so I don't see any reason to try out anything new again.

The privacy concern is knowing who you are, and seeing a list of what you read. E.g., Say I subscribe to Al-Qaeda Online and The Bin Laden Blog. Then say the CIA knew this. Would I be flagged for greater suspicion?

I have my own opinions on the subject, but I probably shouldn't bring them up here. The privacy concerns of the Information Age have to do with connecting data points and drawing conclusions.

I used FeedDemon for a long time a while ago. Then I switched to Bloglines and I've been using it for over a year now. I've been meaning to try out Google Reader, but haven't had a chance yet. But since you all seem to love it, I might actually try it out now.

Default Google Reader lover as well here

I recently changed from Google IG (personalized homepage) to Google Reader 2, it is really the best option for me.

I only have a slight problem that I use Flock as a browser and if I click on the RSS button in the URL bar, the feed is automatically added to My News in Flock instead to my Google Reader. Very annoying.

I now move now and then all the feeds I collected from My News to Google Reader through the export & import function. But I rather have it added directly to my Google Reader. Anyone have a solution?

By the way, Flock is a great social browser which uses Firefox technology.

Default Why Google Reader?

I currently use Thunderbird, because I like that I can look at all my email messages and RSS feeds in one place. It helps me be more productive. I spend the morning reading and responding to email, posting blog entries, and noting ideas for articles. When I had my RSS feeds in another tool, I never looked at them.

But as someone else wrote, it's slow and I'm starting to be annoyed by that. So I want to know why people like the tools they like.

Why do you like Google Reader? I tried the old version, and I didn't like that I had to have a separate Web page open to use it. Same problem with Bloglines.

Default Opera

I'm using Opera, because that's what I use for web and email, and it handles RSS much like email.
It's not the most feature-rich client, but it does the job. I also like the way Safari handles RSS, but since I don't use Macs I'm sticking with Opera.

Started out with Opera, but due to working on many different machines I wanted to go for a web-based solution, so I moved to Google Reader, then to bloglines, and now back to reader. I find googles tagging and keyboard control suits me better. I also found bloglines a bit unreliable, some posts showed up way late. Google is a bit slower, but not much. I would also prefer to sort posts oldest first, which is currently impossible.

I use two RSS readers:

1) The built-in Flock browser one for general news

2) My own RSS news ticker that I wrote to keep me informed about important or high-priority news feeds

Being a new member here I will not post URL's or anything like that.

Just my 2c,

Chris D
