Hey guys I am finishing up my sophomore year as a computer engineering major. I really want to make some money this summer, but unfortunately I live in a small town and I'm guessing at best I could get a minimum wage job delivering pizzas or something. I'd love to continue developing my programming/writing skills, so I'm considering trying to do some freelance work. Has anybody done this? How hard/competitive is it? Worst case scenario, would I make the equivalent of a minimum wage job? Thanks Erock

You can check out Freelance Advice and Freelance Jobs - FreelanceSwitch if you're going that route.

If you know an tech type people let them know what you're doing. All of my clients were from referrals. Any time I'm too busy or there is something I don't have the experience for I pass it along to someone else in my network.

Computer engineering, sweet! I'm EE and CPE. You might be looking at this the wrong way. The WORST CASE is you develop your skills, do something you enjoy, make very important contacts. Any money would be icing on the cake. But yea I'd say if you can get a few leads you'll probably be making a bit of money. |
