Question Photoshop, XHTML, CSS and HTML

Can anyone recommended to me their favorite tutorial books on:

* Photoshop (version 7.0 and up)
* XHTML
* HTML 4
* CSS

I'm a sort of a beginner in all these subjects and there are so many books on the market, that I'm confused. I would rather read books recommended by smart folks (people in the Steve Pavlina forums )

Thanks in advance

Maybe this is not what you are looking for, but you can find a lot of tutorials free online.
Google for: free Photoshop 7.0 tutorial, free XHTML tutorial, etc.

Thumbs up Thanks

Yes, I have found some guides online, but I want to buy books to keep as references for my office and home studio.

Thanks again.

Photoshop: Good Tutorials is probably going to teach you a lot more than any book.

XHTML/CSS: Try Bulletproof Web Design or Web Standards Solutions by Dan Cederholm or CSS Mastery by Andy Budd (though this book is geared toward more advanced users). I hear Beginning CSS Web Development by Simon Collison is also good, though I haven't read it yet.

Also, "The Missing Manual for CSS" is a book I've used a bit. It covers all the basics and some more advanced stuff. So far I like it a lot.

Try Lynda.com, they have the best tutorial vids. You learn at an accelerated pace so it's worth every penny IMHO.

Unfortunately I learnt all those at Uni so I can't offer any books on the subject. However, I usually directed my classmates to Lissa Explains it All -- HTML Help and Tutorial for Kids when we were learning HTML and CSS. It may be a HTML help website for kids, but it is VERY informative and easy to follow.

This Book is one of the best I have seen if you are loking to design with CSS and HTML. Its geared a bit more towards beginners, so if you know the basics, then I would step up to this one instead. The majority of SitePoint books are excellent though.

Default HTML Book

Sams Teach Yourself HTML and CSS in 24 Hours (7th Edition) (Sams Teach Yourself)
by Dick Oliver
Paperback
List Price: $24.99
ISBN-10: 0672328410
ISBN-13: 9780672328411

Go to www.gettextbooks.com and type in the ISBN or title. It will search thousands of booksellers and find you the best prices from lowest to highest.

This is a very easy to understand book. I am currently reading the 6th edition to teach myself HTML and really like the book so far.

Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML from what I've seen is a great book if you're just getting started with HTML and CSS.

Whenever I'm working on a site I keep the CSS Pocket Reference on my side at all times.
