Default well..

I have never tried wordpress but one thing which a little annoying about it is when you reply to a post on wordpress it asks you to enter your name, email every time. Off course you could post as anon.
Blogspot is nice but sometimes editing/formatting the post is a little problematic.

If you plan to blog long-term (and perhaps make a little money along the way), get a hosting account and install the Wordpress software (don't use Blogger or Wordpress.com).

With a host like GoDaddy you can get the hosting for as little as $4.99 per month and you can install Wordpress with just a few simple clicks. It gives you more control over your blog.

Control over what exactly?

Also, wouldn't it be cheaper to just have a Blogger and put Ads on there?

I once used blogger, but then the inflexibility with it's themes and other things annoyed and I switched to wordpress (self-hosted) and I think wordpress is much better.

There is an option to turn off the requirement to log in before adding a comment.

Default what's the choice?

simple choice:

blogger - run ads
wordpress.com - not run ads

if you want to make money, and not pay for hosting, only one choice.

I agree with LifeHawk and go self-hosting. Invest a little for the long term.
