Default HP-UX or LINUX?

I am trying to decide what is the best one to get a certification?
What should be advantages and disadvantages of getting a certification in ether OS?

Why HP-UX or Linux specifically? Why not FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, Solaris, or AIX?

I think Linux will do the trick.

About the *BSD or others, I think linux will have more value as a certification.

HP-UX can land you somewhere, but Linux is less a niche I think.

Well, goog luck!

Why do you want a certification?
What kind of certification are you talking about?
What do you intend to do with it?

Without that information, every answer you can get here will be arbitrary and of not much use.

If you are talking about big or medium sized companies, Linux is a lot less prevalent than commercial Unix systems like HP-UX or AIX.
However, there is a lot of overlap in Linux or Unix Systems. If you don't know where to start, you shouldn't worry about specializing, but focus on the basics. You can do that with Linux, however I doubt that there is something like a useful certification for that.

I'm personally not a fan of Linux, hence my bias towards Unix systems - I feel like the Linux kernel is good software; but, watered down by hundreds of distributions, fragmenting and confusing the community - BSD's (contrary to what many think) are much more stable and easy to learn than Linux.

FreeBSD is engineered and Linux is grown, IMHOP.
