Site concept and Google rank

I'm just starting to build a site (and blog) about personal development. I haven't yet decided this will be my site concept, I'm afraid it's too broad to attract enough traffic, but I also think that the subtopics will be more focused and they could attract most of the traffic directly, by focusing on particular areas of personal development.
However, the question that prevents me from making a decision is this:
How does the site concept affect the way individual pages rank in the search engines? For example, if my concept is personal development and I have a subtopic about time management, and in there, an article about how to avoid being late, would this last article have less chances of being found than it would it my site concept would be "Time Management" ?
Any help would be appreciated.

That's somehow true, but after all, this is the technology forum, not the character and contribution one. I am more than confident about my econtent, but I am not sure if the concept is not too broad to rank highly enough to attract enough people to read my content.
I think reaching many people is important. Even if that wouldn't bring me any money (which it will), I would still feel the same.

I think you should focus on creating good content and driving traffic through a myriad of ways (article marketing, social bookmarking, video marketing, etc). When you have sufficient backlinks, your PageRank should improve considerably, though PageRank isn't as important these days when you've have traffic coming from all the other channels.

It depends on how people link to your website. If people link directly to that article about avoiding to be late that article will get served to people by Google.

Your site concept should focus on your readers.

I suggest you to try it out -- you really don't know until you put out some content and see how people react to your blog.

I like the earlier post about focusing on content. Write quality content. Put it on your blog. See how people react. Then modify, change and perfect.

But why do you think Page rank is not important? When you have a page rank it means you have backlinks- meaning people not only want to read your content but will like to link to your site as 'reference'. What is your opinion on this?

Right, the importance of inbound links from other theme-related, high-ranking websites is one of the things that increases your rank with the search engines, according to the SBI materials and most SBIers.
Btw - I started building my site - I do want to know most of the basic and most effective principles to follow, but I know it will turn out well anyway.
