I bought a forum and thought it would get popular like this one. How wrong I was because I'm only getting spam. How does one get a forum populated?

Hey

If I where you, I would recategorize the whole thing. Especially for a starting forum, I would set up only a few categories. For example.

Business and Financial
Motivation and Mind Set
Food and Health

and some more...

You probably want to think a little longer about it than the 5 minutes I spend on it, but I think you get the point.

And to get visitors. Maybe you can start a blog/website on the root of your website Discussion for the unemployed, Psychology, money making possibilities with lots of real stories about people who changed themselves. Inspirational stories and maybe some video's and audio with inspiring stories. Give it a motivational zen like design and you have a place to get people their attention. You can set up a newsletter to let people know if there are new stories, and maybe later on you can send messages with interesting stories and threads from the forum. What I would do is find some biographies from famous people who turned their life around and Inspire you, for example: Steve Pavlina, Tony Robbins, ... And keep on marketing the whole thing.
