Default Recording audios with garageband of Mac?

How do you record some audio recordings with garageband? And then add some background music to it. Is an external mic necessary for the recording?

You can use the built-in instruments (no mic needed) or use an external mic, whichever you like.

Is it possible to make your own audio books by means of it? No need to buy digital voice recorders?

I tried the record button but it doesn't record anything.

Yes, you can use the mic that's built in to your mac, but for an audio book or podcast, I think you'd want the better sound quality of an external mic.

Are you using the "podcast" project (as opposed to a music project) option? Just select either the male or female voice track (it just modulates the sound a little differently for male vs. female, that's all) and you should be able to record your voice through your mac's built-in mic.

Is their a voice recognition that types in what I say on Mac? That way I don't have to type a large bulk of things.

If you do podcast, can you save it as an mp3 file?

Yes. Click "Share" -- click either save podcast to iMovie or save song to iTunes and then "compress using": mp3 encoder.
