I use and recommend Dreamhost. A bit of Google Magic and you should be able to come up with a discount code for Dreamhost ... just make sure you get the full $97. I also have stuff with Hostgator. They're pretty good as well.

If people are willing to pay a premium, I've heard great things about MediaTemple. Their basic package is $20 a month. Personally I use Dreamhost (aff), which offers great value for the money ($9.95 in my case).

I provide hosting via HostingForAQuid. It's inexpensive hosting ideal for first-time to intermediate users, with a nice control panel and one-click installers for a whole bunch of things, including WordPress, GeekLog, Joomla and lots more. I like to think my prices are fair and reasonable, I use my own services myself for all of my own websites and client sites, and I'd stake my forum reputation on these claims. (users in the US - yes, we will sell you hosting, and PayPal will sort out the exchange rate - it's still pretty cheap, even when converted to US dollars) Enter "PAVLINA" in the Discount Code box for a 10% discount.

I use StayHosted for my blog, Desinomics. For the price, under $25 bucks a year, they can't be beat. I really like their support, and there's plenty of room for me to upgrade if my blog ever hits off. I have the basic plan, with 500 megs of space and 5 gigs of transfer.

I am using BLUEHOST.COM Works fine and they have a a nice control panel that you log in to and operate your site. I chose it because they have a "one click auto install" for Wordpress, that is the blogging tool I am using.

I have all of my sites (6 or so) with site5.com. They have very competitive pricing, cpanel, etc. as well as a unique feature called 'flashback' which is a backup system a lot like windows' restore feature.

I use (mt) as well. I could be using free hosting, but I'm planing on partnering with them at some point in the future. They have great service and are the industry standard.

I am also using bluehost.com and have been very happy so far. The control panel is very user friendly and I have not experienced any down-time.

I use www.godaddy.com because the prices are cheap, 3.99 a month for 5gig of space and 250gig of transfer, and when you sign up for hosting you can register an unlimited number of domains for a year for 1.99, they also have some decent one click installs, including wordpress.

| Senior Member | Quote: In the past couple of years I had tried at least a half dozen web hosting companies and hadn't been happy with any of them for one reason or another. Then a friend recommended Dreamhost......it got off to a rocky start when there was some problem about setting up my domain properly. But their customer service in dealing with it was beyond amazing--they actually *took responsibility* for the problem, fixed it in a matter of hours and gave me four months of free hosting for my trouble. Since then Dreamhost has continued to exceed my expectations on a daily basis. They're very reasonably priced but they could triple their prices and I'd stay with them with out question because they're just so good.... Having to switch webhosts is a pain, and I'm glad there's one less thing to worry about on a daily basis. Not that there aren't other good hosting outfits but I haven't personally dealt with any that are even close to Dreamhost... | |

Add another point dreamhost. I love those guys. I use them for all my hosting. I have tried a few different ones, but then i stumbled on dreamhost's site and have been a very happy customer ever since. Their people really know their stuff, great service, great features, great communication, and aweseome newsletters. Their newletters are funny and informative. I could not be happier with them. | |

Hi, I am using a webhosting on my own server. If you think about a really large web project, I can strongly recommend Layered Technologies (Layered Technologies). They are very kind and have the best server hosting performance/price offers that I have ever found. |

I use NearlyFreeSpeech and Amazon S3 for hosting. NFS will host many types of dynamic content and they have SSH support, ect. It's a high-quality host too IMO, and they won't take your site down unless it violates a law. Domain names there are $7.50 and you can do whatever you want with them. S3 is cheaper than NFS but can't host dynamic content or anything. So you should probably host all of your images, ect, with them and your scripts with NFS. Both charge based on your usage. To use MySQL in NFS, you need to buy a MySQL process, which will cost one cent a day. |

I'm looking on hosting a blog type website. I was inspired by this very website. I want to do something very similar to what Steve has done. Anyway, approximately how much space would one need for a extensive blog/article site (like Steve's) and how much traffic would one need. I'm just not sure. I'm pretty sure that the space wouldn't be an issue since it would be mostly text and a few small images. But how much bandwith would be needed? Regards, Ryan |

Why not get a blog with someone like WordPress, bandwidth will not be an issue and if you want your own domain name you can map it to the blog - Domain Registration and Mapping « WordPress.com |
