Hi all, I read on here that: Quote:
It seems to me that most people picked their web host based on pricing, size, speed and click-ons. Are there any other important variables to consider? Thanks in advance

If you want to learn about webhosts.. I recommend this site Web Hosting Talk It's not perfect but if you don't get beat up for wanting everything for $5 a month.. you ought to be able to choose someone fine here.. I really only have one paid host right now that's dreamhost.. my site is linked in my profile if you're so bored you want to see.. Dreamhost apparently does give you unlimited space like they're supposed too (it's not uncommon to get booted from most hosts for actually trying to use the space) at about this time of writing I am probably using about 1+ Tb or so just for that site in my profile On the downside my gallery2 script won't complete a scan of my data (crash's) even though I have a private server.. which I got at a super deal of $5 a month.. My site is unimportant to me much if it's down.. meaning I don't care.. there's no money being made.. it's really just a money pit!

I also use HostICan, which have been great speedwise. I'll probably get an account through Citrex as well - thanks for the tip!

Hi everyone I was interested in Dreamhost after reading all the positive comments on here but each time i try to register it comes up with an error... As I've said before i would like to add affiliates programs but I read Wordpress does not accept commercial stuff and it needs to be hosted (did i understand correctly?). Bummer. |

Its advisable to host your own website, as well as have a network of free blogs like that with their own content pointing towards your main site (lots of reasons you want to be doing that). My team and I provide WordPress hosting here. If you need help in setting up, you can PM me directly as well - and if you need a free trail to test out the service, PM me. Oh and as far as adding affiliates in the free wordpress blogs go, you can surely do them using the free blogs. However its good to have a network of blogs pointing toward 1 main site, but there are many ways to do it so you can decide how you like to go about it.

This is not hosting related, but addressing the poster above's idea of having a network of free blogs pointing to the main blog. That sounds good in theory and I have considered it but the problem is time management. I mean, who has the time to constantly update a bunch of blogs? I surely don't. I am too busy trying to make a living online. I guess I could outsource it, is that what you do?

Then I link the posterous account to auto-post to all my blogs (its simple to do when you login to your posterous account). So every time I make a blog post - It posts everywhere automatically along with any links, linking back to my main website, hosted by a web hosting company. PM for any help on that - or if you have questions on it. Dont want to hijack the thread which is about web hosting =)

I suggest ipage.com My site is Welcome In my experience they're cheap and offer a very good service. Had no problems caused by them. But any problems can be dealt with using thier 24/7 online chat, which i have used a few times and its very good. No AI talking to you there is actually someone on the other side. |

Okay, so I am not sure why yet... but I always here not to go with Go Daddy. But you gotta admit they rank well dominating with a large extension market. Anyhoooo, I am quite happy with BlueHost (aff link). Been with them for years. And they've always graciously help me when I screw things up. |

I recommend staying away from Aplus.net. I had nothing frustration while I was with them. If you need support, you will feel like you've called back to the Soviet Secret Police & Web Hosting Co. in 1984... they are rude beyond belief! (They are based in California though) Their general contact emails, like to alert you to news or account changes... confusing at their very best. Responses to emails asking them to explain why you need that strange service they now want to bill you for but you don't know what it does... I'll let you know when I get one. Of course I could care less any more because I moved to Hostgator years ago and have grown with them to the point where I now rent a virtual private server and they have been excellent. Just a few weeks ago my final domain name I had foolishly registered through Aplus went away and I refused to pay for the weird service they tried to charge me for so I should never hear from them again. Now that's a reason to have a party! |

I recommend hostgator for web hosting. The shared hosting baby plan will do... nothing fancy. Don't get your domain there though... get it from either godaddy or namecheap. You want your hosting separate from your domain... You can use a coupon code to get a good discount on your hosting. Check out Best HostGator Coupon Codes for the latest discount coupon. I think the best one right now is HGBEST2011 It gives you 25% off any hostgator web hosting plan =) |

Well, my two cents on the subject. I have always relied on hostgator, since I have some websites up and running, they allow me to have all of them together under the same roof. I highly recommend getting the medium plan (baby plan), that costs me around 6 bucks/month, but I can stuff in all my websites into the same hosting space. The simple plan (hatchling) is cheaper, but it restricts you to just one domain, which is a HUGE difference for only $3 dollars difference. Personally, it's been 5 years since I started with hostgator, and I have never had a problem, customer service is pretty quick (although you have to make yourself clear to avoid getting a standard response that doesn't quite put you in the right direction). Nowadays, the features that most of web hosting providers offer cover pretty much anything that you will need to set up a website in minutes. Hostgator is not an exception. If you want to really save money but still keep the best service, I would recommend getting your domain names at Godaddy.com (although I find their control panel quite confusing) and then pointing those domains to your hostgator baby plan. Hostgator also offers domain registration, but it's some dollars more expensive. If you have any particular question about it, I will be more than glad to answer it, just send me a pm or reply to this thread. I'm willing to help anyone with doubts or questions on getting hosting services or anything related. I hope this helps, Daniel. EDIT: Ohm, I wrote an extensive review on hostgator not so long ago (I thought that I left it unpublished... but here it is) Last edited by Ingenius; 10-07-2011 at 01:15 PM. |

I agree Hostgator hands down is the best. I have had great interactions with their customer support ( never got a cookie cutter answer from them myself) if anything one guy spent a few hours on the phone with me straightening out the reseller account the guy I work with setup ( incorrectly ). One thing I am curious about is the back links builder tool they offer, I have not yet gone in an kicked the tires on it (checked it out) but am wondering if anyone has tried it out, and would you say it is worth working with? |

I use Domain Names, Web Hosting and SSL Certificates - Go Daddy because they are inexpensive, 3.99 for the transfer of space and 250gig5gig months when you can register your domain registration hosting for one year of unlimited number of 1.99, they also have some decent one-click installation, including WordPress.
