Hi, I was looking for a better hosting plan when I stumbled upon this thread, when I checked out Dream Host I saw that they have a limited birthday special which will give you unlimited disk and unlimited transfer volume. Currently there are only very few such accounts left, so you better hurry. I already signed up and really like what I'm seeing so far. __ Gunsou PS: I just created a promo code, so if you enter BETTERSETUP you can get $50 off (Thats the setup fee). Update: I moved my website from the godaddy servers to dreamhost yesterday and now it runs about ten times faster. It also seems that some limits have been released or are at least loosened up. I can't talk about performance under load though, because the site is still under development. I will now try to setup SVN to manage the source of my website. I do recommend DreamHost. Their standard price is $119.40/year, but by using the promo code DISCOUNT50PROMO at sign up page and get the $50 discount + %10 extra disk space. This way you get them for $69.40/year instead of $119/year. You can use their huge Disk Space and host unlimited number of sites on a single panel. Go to the site dreamhost.com/hosting.html and enter the promo code DISCOUNT50PROMO Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year) Disk space: 500 GB+%10= 550GB Bandwidth: 5000 GB Unlimited domains and subdomains 1 free domain % 99.9 reliable Last edited by leyli2008; 10-12-2008 at 03:08 PM. |

Does anyone have experience running a forum? I am helping a buddy set up a forum for a informal group that he is involved in. One thing I would like to be able to do is set him up with a host that is: 1) inexpensive 2) One-Click install of a good (recommended?) forum app Also, I am not all that familiar with forum apps, but it would be cool if the patches and upgrades for the forum app was as easy as possible. My current host (GoDaddy) offers one-click upgrades for WordPress...which is cool (they are pretty slow with the upgrades, which means I am always behind in version). Is this an issue with forum apps? THANKS! |

I currently use godaddy as my webhosting site. Now I have read that there are other less expensive options out there even though I spend only about $4.00 a month but I wanted to have the stability of a site that I felt was going to be around for a while. I do not want to have to try to recreate my site in a flash on another host because the host I was using closed it's door. Changing hosting companies in the best of times is hard enough without the stress of doing it under the preasure of loosing your people because your site isn't there.

Stompjared, it looks really cool and web 2.0. I pay for webhosting myself, so I don't need it, but still... The one thing I'd be concerned about is permanence -- what if you had to shut it down in after a year or so (hope that's not the case!). Good luck! |

I'd agree, the longevity of service is always a concern (even with paid hosts), however I don't intend to pull the plug any time soon. As long as I can make some revenue/break even with the ads I'm happy to keep it going. | |

We use elief.com Web Hosting, Magento Hosting, Cpanel Reseller Hosting, and Linux Dedicated Servers | eLief.com (not sure why it keeps autoformatting) and have never had a better experience with another web hosting company, I swear the support replies to any of my requests in under 15 minutes...and they're affordable too for how much they offer!

I've dealt with at least half a dozen web hosts in the past few years, and hands-down the Rackspace Cloud (formerly Mosso) is my number one favorite host of all time. The control panel is schnazzy, their default tech setup works great for programming but allows a good amount of customization, their tech support kicks ass, and it's really fast. The only problem is that they don't do your typical shared hosting, so it's going to cost you $100/mo to start. It's great if you're a reseller, or a programmer who needs to find solid webhosting for your clients. Or if you have $100 to spend on web hosting to use as a sandbox. Hosts I've used in the past: PowWeb (which I refer to as PowFAIL cuz they SUCK), iPower (ditto), Dreamhost (not bad, but still not my favorite; it's what I currently use for my personal site), LivingDot, BlueHost, Intermedia (no complaints on either of those three), and several local web hosting companies (only one of which made the grade). |

As a web designer, I've worked with dozens of web hosting companies. Most are the same, but I've run across one that really outshines the rest. I tried Cirtex Hosting originally for their video script installers, and found them to outperform every other company. Some of the things that make them better in my opinion: They start at $2.99 so they're cheaper. Their servers are ALOT FASTER which means your sites are faster. You get unlimited domains/websites names for as many projects you can think of. and their service is excellent. I noticed you even get a free domain name on sign up. Heres my link for Really Awesome Web Hosting Im happy I found them, I hope you are too. Trisha |

loswebos doesn't sound very German There are plenty of good web hosts out there. However the companies that are really good in customer care and have a good network, fair priced services and provide choice of plans and products aren't more than 1,000... I mean 1,000 as a global number. But websites owners still have many options to choose from. An important things is how anyone compares web hosts. What are the criteria? |

I've used Servint's VPS solution with no problems whatsoever. The support is very quick to respond and knowledgeable. In my opinion, if you have multiple sites, it's best to spread them around as much as possible. "Don't put all of you eggs in one basket." |

I hosted all my websites to 1and1.com and so far its good and Im didnt experienced any problem yet. They just upgraded my package to unlimitted transfer recently for free. They also upgraded my disk space. Im satisfied with the service. @WillieLongIII I agree. It is a good idea to spread the sites to different hosting locations. Its better to be paranoid because wether we like it or not.. machines are failing sometimes. |

I've been using Dreamhost for a while now. I've been using the shared hosting they have and it works great. I host multiple domains and websites for the same price, just need to pay for the domains. Dreamhost has 1-click install for many things such as wordpress and forums. I use wordpress for more than just blogs, I create company websites and landing pages for ad campaigns, it just makes it so easy to focus on these items with wordpress instead of building the website. |

I have been using Web Hosting Services and Domain Name Registration : 1&1 Internet Inc. for the last 5 years and have been very happy with their offerings. I started out using their 6 months free promo, then upgraded to Business Package and now I am on Dedicated Hosting with them. Their support needs a lot of improvements when I compare them with other hostings I tried before, but since I am a technical person, I get to figure out what lacks in their answers. Again, technology and offering wise, I am very happy with them. |

Hello! I'm new here... hope I'm asking this in the right place. Is anyone familiar with all the different social networking membership platforms that are out there? I'm launching one and have not found one that has all that I need along with a clean look and ease of use. I tried something called igroops, but don't like the 'clunky' factor. I've also looked at Social Sam, and Socialgo, but they are also missing some needed features. Any thoughts? |
