Default PHPBB or VBulletin or...?

I'm looking to start a forum for a project I'm working on. I'm mostly debating between PHPBB and VBulletin. Price isn't a major issue, though it is definitely a small factor.

Whichever I use though, I really would be interested in being able to interface with it eventually so that users created in the main part of the site could perhaps be created in the forum, and vice versa. Is this any easier with either of the above?

In general, which would you recommend? If you know of something better, I'm open to suggestions.

I think phpBB is good if you want to keep using current user accounts, don't know if that is possible with vbulletin.

Could you clarify a bit? What exactly does PHPBB have that makes this easier?

You can also consider Vanilla.

I discovered that symfony actually has a simple forum plugin. I'll just use that, and modify it to my needs, I think. It integrates with the user plugin, too, which I can modify to include whatever data I need.

I've used many forum scripts, and have found MyBB to be the best. Better than vBulletin, and free to boot!

I've tried several. I will always pick phpBB for new forums from now on. It was easier and more intuitive to configure for me. Plus there is a lot online in the way of support.
