Default What is a good touch typing speed

Hi there, I am trying to improve the speed at which I type and was wanting to know what people think is a good speed to type at. What should I be aiming for. I am not wanting to be a pro typer or anything, just improve efficiency really.

I'm guessing around 60 - 70 wpm? I'm not really sure. I think that is the range that is usually requested when I see things for Database entry or secretarial work in the paper.

I think anything over 50 words per minute is satisfactory for most jobs.

Are you improving your typing speed for work, or just for personal productivity?

It it's for work, then local employment agencies should be able to tell you what typing speed is required.

Most people speak at about 100-150 words per minute. This is an unusually fast typing speed. With an average proficient typing speed (50-75 wpm with practice), you'll always have to slow down your thoughts or speech to your typing speed. Only you can say how much benefit you would get in your life from typing faster.

Do you have to type a lot throughout your day?

I would like to improve my speed for school - essays etc and for sending emails and general things like that. I would like to use my laptop to take notes in class but only when I attain a speed that would mean that I can keep up.

I would say somewhere between 60 and 80 words per minute.

free online touch typing speed test - wpm words per minute

^ Not to go off topic, but I was curious to know what my typing speed is - apparently I clocked in at 103 words a minute. Wow! I didn't know my fingers could move so fast on a keyboard...

after switching to colemak, I type at about 80wpm.
I find more than the speed though, is making mistakes. It just messes with my flow. I should probably work on it a little more.

My standard is between 60 and 80 words per minute. I currently use Cool Type Master to improve my typing speed and keyboard accuracy. It works pretty fine for me. And now i can type 62 words per minute.
