Default Wordpress help

I'm hoping that someone can help me with this. How do you take a wordpress theme that has 3 columns and change it to 2 columns? and have the content (posts of the blog) expand to where the 3 column used to be?

also, I want to organize my sidebar better. In wordpress, all I do is take a wideget and drop it into the right or left side. Whats the code to add something like what steve has (best of stevepav...)

Thanks

Alex

How's your HTML knowledge? Changing the layout from 3 to 2 columns requires adjusting the html of your theme.

As for those additional 'features'... you'll want to look into enabling widgets for your theme (look in the WordPress codex for more info on that). There's a whole bunch of ready made widgets out there, most likely some of them do exactly what you need!

Like Jim said, you can just hard code the changes you desire yourself in the specific template files of the wordpress theme.

If you're not that familiar with HTML, CSS, PHP, etc., I think it would be a whole lot easier to just choose a different three-column theme you like.

Some themes such as this one, Mandigo which I use on some of my blogs has an option on the administration panel to do exactly what you state by simply checking option boxes under presentation in the dashboard.

I am sure there are other themes with the same built in functionality although I can not name them from memory this morning.
