Default dreamhost.com hosting issues?

I just moved my sites to dreamhost and I'm already having problems. My sites have been down for about an hour each day for the last week.

I understand that outages can happen in a shared hosting environment but this is crazy. I've asked them to move my accounts to a different server.

Has anyone else had problems with dreamhost?

Wow, someone just recommended them to me today; sorry to hear about your problems! Down an hour a day?? What did their customer service people say??

Strange, I am running dozens of sites there and never had an issue. In fact, the support even walked me through doing a custom PHP installation for a shopping cart site, even though doing so was far outside of support boundaries. I've had nothing but great experiences with Dreamhost.

Customer service at dreamhost has been great. They moved my account to a new server and I haven't had any more issues. I'm using pingdom.com to detect down time.

You guys may not be having problems because you aren't monitoring your site with a ping service.

Never been on Dreamhost but i've read different stories. While some recommend it others hate it. I guess it depends on which server your site gets hosted.
Btw: That pingdom stuff looks interesting. Too bad it's $10/month, that's more than i pay for hosting.

I like Dreamhost, never has particular problems with them - they do occasionally drop, but in my experience it has always been momentary and I don't except 100% uptime for $10/month.

I monitor my Dreamhost with Free Websites Performance, Availability, Traffic Monitoring as well as BasicState.com.

I have used dreamshot for years without problem, but when my job began using them for mail only, we encountered lots of problems, which were tracked down to problems with the server we were on.

So I guess you were unlucky and wound up on a problem server.

Their customer service is good though. Quick response and things get fixed fast.

That's good to hear. I currently have two domains with them, but no hosting yet. I will be hosting an eCommerce site in a month or two with them.

Same here, I have a few sites with dreamhost and I've never had problems, but I don't monitor uptime with any third-party sites either.
