| Twitter.com It's userbase has soared like mad. Yet, in my opinion, the concept sounds meaningless. "Our goal is based on a simple idea: What are you currently doing". I haven't looked into it much, I think a person just updates what they are doing, a mix of a time log & diary? Have any of you tried it, and why do you like it? |

| I like what twitter does. The premise of a text message size to answer what are you doing? comes in handy. It gets its value in the amount of people who use it. I can follow or be followed by others who think what I have to say or happen to be doing is useful. And its small enough, like a title to a blog post to get an immediate yes or no the value filters of the readers. I've helped people find new things that I was working on because I was twittering about what my current task was or what news article really struck home for me. I've also gotten good value out of the people I'm following: they give me updates on news events and things going on in their lives that are relevant to me. The key I've found is in the quality of what are you doing right now in the people you follow or what I answer to that question for the folks following me. I'm interested in business, I do what I can to follow business leaders who are twittering about what they're doing, its like a short conversation with people who matter to me. It's different from an rss feed and that's where it adds value to me, its a two way SMS sized rss feed. |

| I thought it a useless fad (a common reaction) but if my lifestyle called for it, I would use it. People have organized flash events, had pool common peoples' common knowledge to get a question answered...a kid even twittered himself out of jail! Most people think it's a narcissistic web 2.0 thing but watch when a Miley Cirus (sp?) starts using it and everyone will start, like with social networks.

| At first glance when I first discovered Twitter (in the very beginning) I also thought there wasn't much use for it (based on the question "What are you doing?). But Twitter is one of those things that you need to get involved in to understand (to actually get it!) and take value from it. It's all in how you use it and, most importantly, in who you follow. Here's a guide to Twitter for those of you who can't see usefulness in it, it's a good place to get started and start enjoying Twitter: The Big Juicy Twitter Guide | Caroline Middlebrook And to those of you who DO enjoy Twitter, here's where you can follow me: Twitter / PatriciaMuller

Thanks for the link to that article, it was quite helpful. I joined twitter, but I've been trying to figure out why! I'll have to add you, and I already posted my username in the other twitter thread, but I'll post it here too... Higher Symmetry on Twitter |
