| If you've ever had a post, article, or video of yours go viral on Stumbleupon, you know how much traffic it can bring in for a few days. MASSIVE amounts. But you might also know that most Stumbleupon users have the attention span of a gnat with ADD. I've had on article on my blog at Pimp Your Grades | Study Tips. Good Grades. go viral on Stumbleupon a few days ago, and my traffic has been up ten fold since then but the bounce rate is extraordinary. Out of the 1,500 visitors I got yesterday, I got about 20 more subscribers. That's it. I know this traffic boost only lasts for a few days and then it dries up. So how do you make the most of the traffic when most viewers don't stick around for more than 60 seconds? Or how do you make them stay longer? |

| My advice would be to use Stumbleupon yourself and see which websites you stay on longer. And which you bookmark for yourself (etc etc). And why. And then apply that reason to your website Perhaps you can ask people of your target audience for their opinions on the matter. Edit: I took a look at your website. Even though I was looking for the subscribe button it took me about 10 seconds to find it. Moreover, I didn't really know what "subscribe by email" meant, and therefore I didn't know if I wanted it. My suggestion: make the subscribe buttons appear right underneath the yellow menu bar. Moreover, say something like "subscribe to this to receive so and so", like weekly tips or something (or whatever the subscriber would get). Also, from the point of view of a Stumbler, the site is a bit messy and the point isn't evident right away. When I scroll down, it's hard for me to get interested in anything specific. Perhaps you could use specific pages for Stumbleupon? Like, a specific article? That catches my attention usually. Also! I LOVE the site's name - ingenious. | Thanks for the input. Do you think the button would be easier to find if it was bright orange (the typical RSS button color) instead of yellow? |

| Hm, I'd have to say that I like the yellow - it fits better with the scheme of colours already. I don't think it was difficult to find because it wasn't bright enough, I think it was because it was on the same visual level as other objects - plus more to the side |

| Seth Godin made a great point related to this recently - most people who get to your site through these services aren't looking for anything in particular. Are you really doing so much for your site's regular users and others who have a specific interest in the topic that you can now afford to spend time converting random people (and that's essentially what they are, even when they come in large numbers)?

| I've been wondering about this stumbleupon myself. I signed up the other day, but I don't know how much appeal there will be for a note-taking software in the massive amounts of viral video and other things. |
