Talking what is the forum made of?

Hello there,

I am just a very new comer for Steve Pavlina Website, I have studied and learned from his blog for couple months. I like all his teaching and advices ,mostly for the personal development and online money making ones.

I am from Thailand, being just the owner of small Cyber Cafe Shop. Living in Bangkok, Capital city of Thailand. Hope all of you know my country.

I have tried to develop my e-commerce website for 3 years with a bit of success, until I find the Steve Pavlina web site by googling for the phrase "make money with blog". Very long article, yet I read it once within one night from the first word to the end of line including some comments. That was great.

Today, I've just noticed that there is a forum here so I register and already be the member here. Nice to meet you all.

My question is that - What software this forum is made of? Is it phpBB or anything else? Please give me advice because I truely need a good forum module in my new website. Now it is during development, so I have to sorry that I can't disclose its name and url. Hope ya understand.

That's all for my first post here
Nice to know you all,
Klokk

Hello Klokk.

This forum uses vbulletin You can see that at the bottom of the page. It's probably the best forum, but it costs money.

If you want a free forum, then I would suggest Simple machines forums, I heard a lot of good thing about it.

The best forum is at the allegro community but it's not available to people. Mr Leverton made it himself and I think he's a bit ashamed of the inside workings...
But seriously, it has awesome last read features so it's very easy to keep track of the discussions you've participated in lately without having to mark or unmark any topics yourself. Not to mention lots of other nifty stuff.

The fora I have liked the most have been powered by Drupal (PHP based, free software): simple, flexible, unfussy and with nice surprises. What I have heard is that vBulletin has the usability advantage for moderators, and works more or less the way you want out of the box. Could be, I don't know...

The OP says he is interested in linking a BB to an ecommerce site: I saw an article about someone who switched from vBulletin to Drupal for just that reason: Goodbye, vBulletin. He cites the advantages of a general CMS like Drupal for integerating these aspects of a website seamlessly.

Joomla+SMF might also be worth looking at (also PHP based, also free software), as it has its defenders, and a lively development team.

Thailand's great, I love it and have been there several times. Where in Bangkok is your cybercafé?

I would definetly not recommend VBulletin starting out unless you have insane traffic. VBulletin is an amazing product, but it is very expensive. There are some good alternatives if you don't feel like spending insane money for VB.

Default Thanks all of you

My cyber cafe is on Charoennakorn Road. Its name is D-Net. Ask the people around there how to walk to Soi Charoennakorn 18, and from there you walk along the street to the junction about 8-9 storey. You see mine.

Thanks and Welcome if you all come.
Klokk
P.S. Come to Bangkok with no one you can ask me then
