| I have the Photoreading course, but I haven't dedicated the time to learning it yet. I plan to do that during the summer months when my workload slows down a bit. From the Learning Strategies website: "The concept of "mentally photographing" printed materials has been around since the turn of the century. The problem was that only a small percentage of the population could do it, and they didn't know how to teach it to any one else. That's where Learning Strategies Corporation came in. In 1985, at the challenge of IDS/American Express, Paul Scheele, a cofounder of Learning Strategies Corporation, studied people who could do this-input information and then gain access to it. Using his expertise in neuro-linguistic programming-which we'll talk about later-he determined how people could do this and he developed a program to teach everyone to get the same results. In January 1986 the first classes were presented to the public. In March 1986 the first classes were presented in a Fortune 500 company. In May 1986 Learning Strategies Corporation became licensed as a Private Vocational School by the Minnesota Department of Education. The course is now taught around the world and is available through a self-study program." | I took a speed reading course in college in 1973 so it has been around for a few decades. It was my impression at the time I took the course that it was not a new idea. |

| "PhotoReading"has been around for ages before Paul Scheele started doing it. In fact, Paul Scheele attended Richard Welch's Subliminal Dynamics seminar a little before he set up his own thing. Then, funnily enough, a few years later Ed Stracher attended a PhotoReading seminar in Singapore and proceeded to come up with his own Reading Genius course - which has now sold quite well. In other words, you don't [have to be original to have a degree of success in this field. I've worked with PhotoReading / Subliminal Dynamics myself over the last decade or so and find it a somewhat useful process, but very hit and miss. It doesn't replace regular reading, it rather adds to it, I think. It's worth getting the course and going for it - if it doesn't work out for you then there's always the money back guarantee, which you can extend up to six months if you give them a call. Speed reading... Pfft. There are good ways and bad ways to read, but the classical 'train your eyes etc' Evelyn Wood clone stuff is something that almost NOBODY sticks with. Seems great to begin with, but I frankly think it's a shitty way to read, and that might be why so few speed read for more than a few days or weeks after doing a course. I personally haven't seen anyone do it over time. |

| Sorry for bumping, but I've recently came across another method called Quantum Speed Reading. If you think PhotoReading is to good to be true, you'll probably be even less likely to fathom this. Most of what you need to know as to how to do it is available free on the site (though a book and DVD are being promoted), and there's no discussion of an "incubation" period for information. The main problem is that the english isn't perfectly coherent (seems to be from a Japanese organization). I'm wondering if this may be of interest to Steve Pavlina. Quantum Speed Reading |

| I own the deluxe photoreading course. I have not dedicated time to learn it totally as of yet, this summer though looks good for that. As far as it working, with just my light hearted look at the methods I have achieved success beyond what I thought was possible, so I would say yes its definately worrth learning, definately. And speed reading isn't the same thing at all, its a totally different concept.
