| It could potentially be one of the biggest energy breakthroughs in history – genetically manipulating bacteria to quickly convert anything that grows out of the Earth into oil. But the biggest names in the national media have thus far not provided any coverage of this possible solution to skyrocketing gas prices and America's long-term energy security. A WND story last month introduced to the nation a new technique where altered bacteria "rapidly digest" everything from grass clippings and wood chips, turning them into hydrocarbons for fuels such as gasoline and diesel. If done on a large scale, it could provide billions of barrels of renewable oil every year. One reader, Joe Russo of Fairbanks, Alaska, called it "the biggest story we've seen in a decade, yet the cable and mainstream news networks haven't even picked up on it." The apparent inattention comes as a big surprise to the agricultural researcher pioneering the process, J.C. Bell, the CEO of Bell Bio-Energy, Inc. "We've been on several radio stations, but nothing really national," he said. "We haven't talked to anybody. Nobody's called us – nobody from the Associated Press or CNN or Fox News Channel, which kind of surprised us. We thought it would generate something." Read the whole story here. | Here's an article from his hometown paper that had some more exciting information on his work. Researcher: Discovery could end energy crisis How he got here:
Very exciting times! I expect national news to start picking up his research in the next few months when he opens his pilot centers and website is available for more information. Gotta get some traction soon, there's only one place to go and that's up! I posted this story on digg and Truemors. Last edited by Vanessa : 04-20-2008 at 10:27 PM. |

| In the national media's defense there could be limiting factors here: 1) The production of such energy may be too expensive for real use 2) The time necessary for production is very long 3) Research budget too high I guess some work in the field would clear this up, the article was fairly biased towards the idea of controlled media. |

| I saw it on the news. It was a sound bite-sized piece just like most of what we are fed by the networks. It's great! But is it ready for primetime? Nope. Can it be made ready? Sure. How many millions do you have to help out with the cause? Jennifer |

| If I could switch to paranoid conspiracy nut for just a moment... The world governments like to make money, so when something like this happens they have a big conference in secret (well ok maybe not, but there is conference) where they decide how best to spin it... They are in our MINDS!

| Listen, most good inventions found a place in life because they were practical, easy to implement/build/use, and people decided they needed them. Most of this happened before there was TV, certainly before there was an internet. So mass communication is obviously not the key to success. It is the responsibility of the creator to get the news out there, look for capital and do the foot work. I think these garage mechanic inventors start with great ideas, make them work and then expect the world to beat a path to their door shoving money in their faces. Well, newsflash: I can still go down to my gas station right now and power up my vehicle. Yes, it costs me more than it used to but it's still easy and it's ready. Investment capital has not been easy to get of late. The mood of venture capitalists hasn't improved much since 2001. They are going to have to work exponentially harder to get their products out there. Will a major energy company step forth and buy the patent? Yeah probably just to get it off the market. They claim they are researching new ideas but the are basically greenwashing and testing the water to see if they are about to be trumped by one of their competitors if they miss the next big thing. Who knows if it will result in actual useable products in my lifetime. I watched an episode of Beyond 2000 about a new desalinization process that supposedly pays for itself. Tiny, simple, efficient. That show was probably aired more than 5 years ago and my area just suffered through it's worst drought in history. Dubai is going crazy for fresh water. Where is the damn product? I'll tell you where it is: the inventor, now disgruntled because buckets of money wasn't thrown his way, is probably grumbling and still sitting on it in his garage. A good idea is only good if you sell it to the right people. Jennifer |

| The only point I was trying to make by suggesting they use YouTube was that maybe a different medium of communication would help get their idea out there. Had nothing to do with an investment decision. Sorry to mislead you. I only suggested it as a means of reaching a larger audience. |

| It doesn't sound as if it is that far along the process ... it's all "it could be". There are lots of people working on similar responses. The one I find most interesting is using genetically engineered organisms to consume carbon and produce fuels. Craig Venter gave a talk at TED about it: TED | Talks | Craig Venter: On the verge of creating synthetic life (video)

What does my battery cost, what do other batteries costs? How does my battery compare regarding efficency? How does my battery compare in storage. How does my battery compare in the speed of charging. How does my battery compare in weights. If you pitch to VC's you also need to have numbers about the battery market (multi billion dollar market but the number should have 5 exact digets). And then you calcaculate that you make the VC's rich if you even get 1% of the battery market.

| It's the same reason why hemp is illegal, and we don't have free electricity. Hemp is a weed grows rapidly in good AND bad conditions and has many uses. One is making paper out of it. We wouldn't need to chop down millions of acres of trees. Free electricity designs have been around for a long time. Nikola Tesla developed a device where you could transfer electricity through the air. One of the idiots who Nikola was working with to bring it to the mass market decided he didn't want to do it. Nikola lost his financing source and it never made it. Why don't we have this? Because energy means power. Whoever controls the source of energy controls the world. If every country had unlimited amounts of energy at no cost, there would be no superpowers. And so for superpowers to remain superpowers they have to prevent free energy. |
