| Hi I have a geeky fun little idea I want to try out but I'm not sure how to do it. What I'm looking to find or create is a sort of Role play journal / character based on my real life. Basically it will be a program or website where I create a character and insert stats and items based on what goes on in my real life. It will be modeled after those found in computer RPGs. For example I'd create my character with basic stats of STRENGTH, DEXTERITY, CONSTITUTION, INTELLIGENCE, WISDOM and CHARISMA and an inventory and then add/remove things through time. Like if I go to the gym 10 times I'd have an increase of CHA and STR . If I go running 10 times I'd increase CON and CHA. Yoga would increase DEX and CON. Intellectual things such as writing poetry, reading and learning new things would increase INT and WIS. I'd also add an inventory and have it reflect my real life material status. It would include a journal with quests ( I remember finding a mediocre website some time ago that did this but it wasn't exactly what I'm looking for. I'm gonna try to find it again but if anyone have any ideas or if there's a more approrpiate forum to post this in then please chime in. Edit: found the site, it's Chore Wars :: Earning Experience Points for Housework but it doesn't have enough options to make it sufficient. Last edited by Hess : 04-08-2008 at 03:43 AM. |

| Cool idea, Hess! No idea of a site which would do something like this, but it sounds intriguing ... let us know how it goes. You might find this article on The Onion's satirical news site amusing ;-) -- especially the character sheet. | Oh, I started to do this once. I want a better job, so I'd have certain Job Quests, and I want better stuff, so I'd have quests for that. It might be neat to get a group of people who all want to do this in various ways and start a Life: The RPG guild. Actually, that would be neat. I would totally join, or even start, this guild! We would all be GMs of our own games, obviously, but we could discuss ideas, and we could all describe our quests so other people could complete them as well if they wanted to. | Hey guys cool that you like it. chorewars isn't that great in my opinion it seems better for people who live under the same roof. I was thinking if we created our own forums and then we could each have a subforum for our character/quest/daily log and we could come to terms on how to level up and stuff like that. All in all it would be sort of like a webring were we motivate eachother but with elements of RPG. Anyone have a better idea how to do it? I'm a pretty terrible coder so I can't make one with character sheets etc I'm afraid. |

| Yeah, your idea about forums sounds pretty good, Hess. I've got some kind of vague ideas, but I'll have to think about them and possibly develop them before sharing them. We can always start out with one thing, like just a simple forum, and then, if we find something better, transition to it later. |

| Ok, I'm totally in on this. I was just thinking of this same thing the other day.

| I guess the first thing we need is a clubhouse I like the idea of getting one of those sites, e.g. guildportal.com, that are specifically for game guild hosting, but of course, no commercial site has perfect functionality. However, it sounds like the basic functionality we could get by with is forums; perhaps we could create character sheet and quest log templates and, like Hess suggested, just each keep track of of our own stuff in separate threads. Anyone have any specific site suggestions? I myself have used guildportal.com, and the only reason I can think of that we might not want to use that one is that it requires us to enter something from it's approved list of games and servers so we'd have to start out by entering made-up info, but other than that I've found it to be pretty useful. The other option, of course, is to build something that would suit our own purposes, which could be interesting in itself. Perhaps we might start out with a pre-made, and then have various quests we would complete as a guild to make our own customized site. What say you all?
