Default Is there anything wrong with wordpress hosting it?

I remember people were against this but I'm not sure why. If you want to keep your own URL, then it just cost $10 a year for mapping. So how is that bad compared to hosting wordpress independently?

Thanks, after reading some more I think you right about that.

Where can I get cheap, reliable hosting?

I found Network Solutions to be a good host so far. They do seem to be rather slow, especially as I wait for an amount of time that would seem like I had dial up whenever I do anything in the dashboard, although the blog itself is faster. I've been with them for I think two weeks now, so it's not much to go by however. I read another post saying that Dreamhost is good, although I've never tried Dreamhost.

I would also recommend that you download the wp-cache plugin if you're going to use wordpress, as speeds up my website enough to notice a significant difference. I would recommend you do more researching before going with the two hosts I mentioned, as I have barely had any experience with hosts.

Reason why you want your own blog to sit on your hosting account is because you have more control over it. Your files and content all belong to you.

Also, it sounds more professional if you intend to use your blog for business.

Wordpress dot com has definite policies about stuff like monetizing your website, and much more. If your blog is at all serious or commercial or work-related, you would do better to host it on your own personal domain.

I can't recommend that highly enough. Wordpress dot com and Blogger do delete or inactivate blogs that don't correspond to whatever their current policy of the day is: and when you sign up you give them that permission.

So, no. No free blogs, like I said. But if you're just blogging for fun, then wordpress dot com should be okay, I guess.

Right, the control you have by having your own site is well worth the cost. Or you can have a free website (AND blog), site building software, and video course for the whole shebang.

Another problem with wordpress.com is that you can't edit the themes. So if you want something highly customized for your needs, host it yourself. That, on top of all the other reasons already mentioned. I advocate in favor of self hosted WordPress no matter what. Even if right now your blog is just for fun, if that ever changes in the future and you want to monetize it or professionalize it for whatever reason, you're all set already.

Another benefit of hosting your own blog is that you are building links to your own asset that has real value.

There's a list of web hosting deals and coupon codes at the link in my sig.
