| Anyone here into hardcore networking? Routers, switches, firewalls, IPS, WAN links and all that jazz? I'm trying to get my CCNP certification now, and aiming for CCIE next year.

| I took ccna my freshman year in highschool. I don't plan on having a career with it though, but I learned a lot, and knew more than my teachers/network admins did for the most part. It was kind of upsetting, not saying this to bloat, but just because it was really pathetic. Like I'd have to show my TECH teachers how to do things. It's a great thing to fall back on if ever I need it. It was interesting and yet droll at the same time, if that makes sense. I enjoy designing and developing much more though, so that's what I'm doing. Anyways, good luck to you on your certs!

| While, I'm definitely still big into the network world, most of my time these days are orriented around Network Security related interests and devices. I'm not nearly as heavy into the certifications as I once was, but I did go down the Cisco path-along with a few others. My one suggestion there would be to start specializing as soon as you find out what you like to do. While it's nice to be a "Networking Guy", you are much more employable and wanted as say a QoS or Voice Specialist. Good luck on your certs. |
