| All of a sudden, my keyboard and mouse stopped working! I am using a wireless mouse and keyboard but they aren't the one causing the problem. I tried to use the old traditional mouse and keyboard but they won't work either!! Is this is a software or a hardware problem? My win. seems to be working fine. I am using XP PRO SP2. Please help. |

| Err... How'd you post this if your mouse and keyboard don't work? (Another computer?) Some general mouse/keyboard suggestions: -Your mouse and keyboard can be plugged into a PS/2 or USB bus on any modern computer. A USB keyboard/mouse can be made to use PS/2 instead with a little converter plug. Which bus are you using(a circular plug goes into a PS/2 bus and a rectangular plug goes into USB) for your keyboard/mouse? You could try changing which USB port you plug it into(try to plug it into one of the front ports if it's plugged in the back and vice versa maybe) or try PS/2 hardware if you're using USB, ect. -Try doing something in the BIOS, which is independant of the OS. Hit a certain key right after you boot up your computer(it should say on the screen, maybe F2). You should see a screen where you can change your computer's settings. You can test out the keyboard here. -Some BIOSes won't work well with USB keyboards. -PS/2 should be pretty safe since it's been around for a while. -Your OS will generally screw up if you unplug the mouse or keyboard while it's running. You can usually do stuff like plugging in a different mouse but you can't plug in a new mouse after starting your computer with no mouse without a restart. -Do you get any messages after you start your computer about a keyboard failure or something? They'll happen right after you start it, before Windows loads. -You could also peek around your BIOS settings to see if anything's not right(the F2 thing)..

| One thing to keep in mind, if your keyboard plugs in using a PS/2 port (round as opposed to rectangular for USB), then a full system restart (right off then back on) is required for the computer to recognize that the keyboard is plugged in. Does the capslock light flash when you first turn the PC on, as well as lighting up when you push the capslock on and off while the computer is on? If not, then its likely that there is no connection at the port or no power getting to the keyboard. |

| I think its the OS problem. Yes, I was using a different computer to type the first post. Now it seems to be working fine, that it, the PS/2 keyboard and mouse. The wireless usb one still won't work. I have all other 5 usb ports occupied and they seem to be functioning fine. I think its the OS thats causing the problem. I have been using the wireless keyboard and mouse well over six months so that rules out the "incompatibility with the BIOS". No, there were no messages at start-up regarding any failure. Yes, the num lock and caps lock light up when ever I want them to light up. There is no problem with the power supply. To summarize it all, keyboard and mouse now work with the PS/2 ports but still no connectivity with the usb wireless keyboard and mouse. |

| Shut down your computer, find the on/off button on the power supply (top backside of the computer). Turn it off and wait 20 seconds, then turn it back on and see if it works.
