Cool Steve Pavlina's Blog PageRank

I see now that the PageRank of this page:

http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/

is only 4.

How could this be for 1200+ back links?

It was 7 in the past as far as I remember. What's gone wrong?

Maybe there are some filters Google imprelemented?

Anyone has any idea?

PageRank is not important.

It is calculated by links and links only.

Google dropped many people's PR a few weeks ago, including mine. It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong, so they say.

I wonder has this had any effect on the traffic?

7 -> 4 looks like a tremendous drop!

P. S. Probably that's because there are so many backlinks or there are high-traffic forums here, or simply it's some kind of manual switch for this high-traffic site after manual review...

The pagerank you see on the google toolbar is not necessarly the same pagerank that they use to calculate the search results.

google changed some things around 2-3 months ago that basically caused a hugedrop in pagerank for a lot of sites. I dont remember what the gist of it was but i agree withthe sentiment that i couldnt care less about pagerank =)

Besides i think steve mentioned that he doesnt rely on search engine traffic anyways. Which is the smart thing to do =)

Exactly! The toolbar PR everyone sees (1 through 10) is meaningless, it's only there for webmasters' amusement.

It could be the paid links in the Sponsors section of the main site. I heard that Google is punishing people with paid links by dropping their PageRank.

Cool

How could they determine if they are paid or not? Those links are very small addition to the entire web-site. I guess this web-site may be subject to manual review because of the huge traffic here.

As far as I heard, it may be through the use of filtered keywords. But I'm not sure if that's true.
