| What is required for me to make a website for visitors to join fill out a profile and log daily mileage from their workouts and have it so they can compare their miles to other particapants. This seems to be a popular craze for athletes a good way to get motivated to workout in a some what competitive way. I would love to jump on this but the thought seems so huge to even try I don't know where to start. Thanks for your time

| You're going to need to use a server-side language(PHP, ASP, CGI, ect)... In order to do that you would need to know how to write code. You'd also probably need a database of some kind(usually MySQL). The alternative to that would be saving your data to a file which would be slow and prone to errors. Meaning you'd need to have access to PHP and MySQL or something else like that at your host, those are the most common. You could also hire a scripter to write it for you.

| This is definitely a code problem. Need a host, a language, and a database. Need to think carefully about the options here. Is this niche already filled? My running friends all have the Nike equipment that syncs with the ipod and pushes data to the web. Can you compete with that? Are their alternatives that are possible in this space?
