I have a used laptop that has user profiles setup as part of a domain or workgroup. It had VPN software installed, which I removed. It's a Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro. In general, what are the steps required to get rid of the old user info. and start fresh? I'd ultimately like to set this laptop up so I can access files on my desktop via my wireless net (not looking for instructions on how to do that - not now anyway - just something to keep in mind). |

Normally there isn't much to worry about, with simply using the system for your purpose after deleting the software. But if you fear that the previous owner wants to spy on your data (he would need to have a program installed somewhere on computer), you should reinstall XP. But for 99% of people that would be overkill. |
