Default My Blog Idea: Stories of Success

Ok, I've been wanting to do this blog-type thing for a good long time now. What I want to do is be a reference for success stories. That is, for example, if someone wants to quit smoking, on my site, there would be several stories of people who successfully quit smoking and their stories of how they did it. Or someone who is very shy and wants to overcome it would find several stories of people who've done that. That is, I want to have a repository of stories that can inspire and instruct on how to achieve things. It would have stories by both well known people, as well as stories from individuals.

Why? Because stories are powerful. People are influenced more by stories then anything. I remember when I was at my absolute lowest point, I'd desperately seek for such stories. I remember feeling so inspired when I'd read such a story.

This could also be a place where people could achieve things and then send the info for their story to be displayed to the world so that others could be inspired and learn from it.

I've asked on other forums for things of this nature, but I haven't found any site that does this well. Some sites I've viewed try to attempt to do this, but they only had a few stories. If you happen to know of someone else who is already doing as good or better then what I envision in my mind, then let me know. I'd be willing to abondon my idea if someone else is already doing something as good as or better then what I envision in my mind.

This was something too that I couldn't really do if I was a darkworker, because I couldn't be sure of making money off it. However, lately I've been playing with this lightworker stuff. Thus this would be something natural and fun for me to work on without getting hung up on making money off it.

Any thoughts on this?

I think it's great. Do it do it do it!

I like succes stories too. It can sometime be a little addictive (like having a fix from the inspiration generated by reading such stories).
However it usually leads to action and it can be very powerful to find a success story from someone who has similar issues as the reader.

A site sharing success stories would be something of a huge value to me, as far as it doesn't look like some low level personal devpt site that tries to sell us something fast and easy to lose 40 pounds in 2 days.

I don't know if there's a similar site or not, but even if there is, don't let that discourage you. Carve out your niche with your own particular slant or personality style.

Good luck!

Excellent idea! I love reading stories, and if they're positive, that's even better. Do it! Doesn't matter if someone else is doing the same. Just do it! And if you need a quitting-smoking-success-story, I can write one for your site

Heh, nah, I wouldn't stoop to that level. Although, with adsense, there might be such an ad that pops up once in a while like it does on this site. I can always block ads that I wouldn't agree with.

Cool! I'd love to have your quitting-smoking-success-story to put on the blog, once I've started the blog!

Neat! I started reading through the thread and it's funny because some of the concerns you have are the same ones I have.

Someone PM me that even if it's not a unique idea, I should go with my strength and talent and thus go for it. Well, I have this belief that I'm not that great at telling stories though. However, maybe that's a self-limiting belief that I need to work on. However, having such a blog would be a good incentive to polish on my abilities to tell stories, and I do love inspirational and how-to stories.

You should really do it, Seeker5.

You don't have to write all of the stories yourself anyway, you can collect some from other people too. I'll write my smoking story and send it to you. How long should it be?

And you're saying you love such inspirational stories. Then, you will be good at telling them, sooner or later.

Another reason why I think you should absolutely do it is that:

I think we do best what we need or needed at some point ourselves. You'll be into telling these stories with all your heart because you know how important they can be, and you know how to tell them so that they are really helpful for someone who needs them.

Don't be afraid at someone else doing the same. I had this fear too, I thought it's useless to write about some topic when ten specialists are already writing smart books about it. But cdn2wheeler, in his (partial ) infinite wisdom, made it clear to me that the point is more how you write it, how you emotionally reach people, with your very individual way of being, than what you write about. Thanks, cdn

Btw, setting up a blog is really easy. I bought two domains and a hosting package, that took five minutes to do it and half an hour till I could use them, and costs 5 euros a month. Installing a double wordpress really took only five minutes, just like they say. And now I'm playing and having fun
If you go to blogger or wordpress.com, it'll cost you nothing at all and take only one minute.

so: do it right now

That's true. For your story, however long you want it to be to get your points and your story across

I spent some time researching paid blog hosting yesterday, but got bogged down. I think I'll go start with blogger/wordpress.com for now, even if switching later will cause some pain due to disadvantages of switching url.

I like this idea. Do it!

I think what you're doing is going to be the new trend in the next 5-10 years. People are tired of hearing a random Joe Schmo telling them how they should do things. They want to know that Joe Schmo really knows what he's talking about. Who says he's an authority on this subject.

We want to hear how real people are doing things, not how the self proclaimed experts say we should do things.

I think this is just one small reason Steve's blog is so popular. He tries things out and writes about them.
