I was skeptical about this when it was discussed a couple of years ago and I'm still wary about it being used as some education panacea in place of qualified teachers.

Thankfully they got rid of the daft wind-up mechanism that needed about 10mins winding for half an hours use. The mesh WiFi networking is great. Integrated camera, solid state drive, stylus input area, game controls... some of the features are better than most current laptops. The most surprising feature is the 1200X900 resolution 7.5" screen, I hope they've got good eyesight (or large fonts). Shame it's not actually $100, yet. Great for hardware hacking. And a nice buy one give one sale method.

I hadn't expected the laptop to be available to the western market on an individual basis. With the size, ruggedness, and WiFi it seems like a tempting companion for simple web surfing and writing when I'm outside. Aside from the lack of an optical drive (though it has USB ports for an external drive) and perhaps the inability to play the latest graphics intensive video games, what areas would you see this laptop as not quite "enough" for a westerner that could afford spending closer to a grand?
