| If link farming sites are linking to me does this affect my site in any negative way? A fellow blogger apparently has created nearly a dozen blogspot blogs that just farm links and have a big header image to his own personal blog. I personally don't care that he is doing that since I doubt it's bringing him any extra traffic, but I'm a little worried that I'm being linked to by so many link farm sites. The reason I ask is because I noticed recently that my site is barely even showing up in the google search results that were previously among the top search results. |

| It sounds like you're describing pingback spam. Personally, if I get a pingback on my blog from one of these "splogs", I delete it and hope that their link to me still remains. I can't imagine it having a negative affect on your own Google rankings (one back link = one vote, perhaps devalued on a "splog"), so your drop in the search results is probably for some other reaon.

| I'm not sure this is the case but... Google is very smart when it comes to trying to spoof them, it can even go as far as you getting "blacklisted"... This came from the early days of porn sites doing all kinds of crazy things like putting all kinds of text on the page the same color as the background to try and load the page with relevant and non-relevant key words yet keep them hidden... as well as many other deviant tactics... Now, i'm not sure of what this other guy is doing... (maybe you could post some of his sites). But if you're not linking back to him it shouldn't be a problem. Another thing is if he is linking to questionable sites, I know that McAfee will notify me if there are questionable links of a site that I'm on... I hope this helps you a little bit... |

| Edit: After looking into it, I realized that infact his pings to my site are not showing up in my ping/comment section. Maybe akismet is blocking it and considering it comment spam? So I should be fine then since he is only linking to me and I'm not linking back to him in my comment section, right? Here are some of the sites as examples: Spending Wisely The Quiet Millionaire Best Way to Invest Passive Investing Brutha: I added an extra p in the blogspppot link. I would hate it if the guy profits from having links from this forum Last edited by Brutha : 11-03-2007 at 04:30 PM. Reason: See blue. |

| The official line from Google is that there is "almost nothing" someone can do to penalize your site this way. They have repeatedly declined to explain the meaning of "almost".

| As long as you also have lots of good votes (links to your site), those bad ones shouldn't hurt you. It would be too easy for a competitor to take you down, otherwise. |

| Well at this rate I'll have more link farm sites linking to me than anything else. So then what? Can I report it to Google? I just emailed the webmaster who I believe is creating all of these damn link farm sites asking him why he's doing it but I've yet to receive a reply. |
| |||
| What's the link so I can have a look at his site...? |
| |||
| Lil Chris look up to my previous post I have a couple of link examples. Just keep in mind that Brutha edited my posted to have extra "p"'s in the link so the guy's blogspot sites didn't get any positive ranking off me linking to him. |
| |||
| Sorry, I completely overlooked those... |
| |||
| I surely wouldn't worry about this... I looked at the sites, I'm not too sure what he's trying to accomplish but it's pretty useless (in my opinion). I'm not going to sift through all that crap to find anything (I'm sure other people when they see that will do the same). The only way it will be useful is if people are linking back to him, which I doubt they're doing knowingly (i'm not sure how ping backs or anything like that works), but even then it's kinda crappy tactics and a crappy site as well... But, even if he does manage to get a good google rating for some wacky reason, and some one searched for "investors journal" and your link came up on his site at #3,231 who's going to find it...? Do you know if your getting any traffic from it...? Are you able to track incoming hits from his site...? It may be a benefit (traffic wise) to you but, eh, I wouldn't count on it... Don't even sweat it... |

| So far I've gotten no traffic off of it, and I don't expect to get anything from it. I'm really not concerned with him gaining anything, my only concern was if it could negatively affect my site since he has like 12 of those link farm sites constantly linking to me (which are starting to become a large portion of the sites linking to me since I'm a relatively new site). |
| |||
| I don't believe it's going to hurt you in any way... |

| Ok thanks alot |
