I used to use a program called BasKet, which is just a handy way to dump all sorts of data into "baskets" that you create.

Nowadays, I use Tracks, which is a simple yet excellent GTD which runs on a web server, so you can access it remotely.

I use my own Swift To-Do List (see my signature), and I am currently developing a timeboxing app to boost my productivity even further.

EDIT: It is not for Linux though, sorry that I've overlooked that in the first place.

I use didiwiki for my personal notes. I originally wanted a more robust wiki (MediaWiki) but I didin't want to run a full-blown webserver on my laptop. I sometimes take notes in a small notebook (moleskins are nice) and later transfer stuff to the wiki.

I also use the ScrapBook firefox plugin to save online articles, cut out the unimportant bits, and highlight my favorite parts.

I use google calendar for calendaring and google's rss reader for managing my news.

I use Work Rave to make sure I take breaks every so often. Otherwise, an entire day can go by with my eyes glued to the screen.

I use the Countdown Clock extension for Firefox to basically do timeboxing or other things that require a timer.

I have also started a simple text file listing my accomplishments. It's motivating to look back and see what I've done. Otherwise, I would just have todo lists with a bunch of things crossed off that don't tell me specifically what I've accomplished.

Tracks looks interesting, but do you know how well BasKet compares to The Journal?

I've never used The Journal, so I don't know from experience, but looking at the features and screenshots, it looks like BasKet is still quite a bit different from that. In BasKet, you create any number of baskets (there are five different types, but the jist is that each basket is a list of "things") and then you add "things" to them. I can imagine that this would work perfectly for a GTD system, but I don't use it that way because I need to be able to access my tasks remotely (via Tracks). You could write journals into BasKet I suppose, but it doesn't have nearly the formatting options that The Journal appears to have. It is free, though.

Edit: It appears I need to upgrade my version of BasKet. The new features still don't really resemble those of The Journal, but they make it so much cooler.

Thanks for the answers. Basket seems to be what i ve been looking for. Actually Kontact is the ultimate PD software and you can use Basket with it. Basket can work as an integral part of Kontact. (But Basket version 0.6.0 and above is good.)

If you want an ActionOutline/Keynote/OmniOutliner type of app, then get the NoteCase note manager (requires GTK+ 2.x). If you use GNOME, the Timer Applet is good. There are also some good web-based solutions like rememberthemilk.com
