Question Email karma?

How do you decide what emails to reply to,
and what to leave unanswered?

Typically I leave many emails unanswered,
for instance, if I have placed an ad in the paper,
and get a lot of replies,
I would rather save my energy
than reply to all the no's.

Is this proper etiquette,
and makes sense in the grand scheme of energy exchange?

Emails that ask a question and are solicited (i.e. you invited contact), I would reply to. If you get lots of solicited email that can't or doesn't require individual replies, you could send a standard reply. Just cut and paste the reply and do it manually. You could state that not all email can be replied to, in an advert and set people's expectations.

If you place adverts a lot, then how about a specific email address for this purpose and when the mailbox receives an email, it sends a standard autoreply? Most email systems allow this to be set-up.

Just ignoring solicited email, I find rude and irritating. Some sort of reply is good manners.
