You may have seen the Personal Development List which Priscilla started (it's been mentioned in a few threads here). This got me thinking about a Digg-like service which would expand on the function performed by the List. Priscilla herself said that it takes a fair amount of effort to maintain the list and would be happy for someone to make it easier. But I thought that surely there's something out there already. Yet none of the comments on Priscilla's page mention anything, and I've never come across one. Sure there are social bookmarking sites which have a Personal Development category, but those tend to be for specific pages rather than sites as a whole. So my first question is, does anyone know of such a site? If not, I'd appreciate some feedback on this idea... The List could be turned into a site where people could submit their own site, or a site they like, and of course the current list of sites would be included. The site would provide the following functionality (at a minimum), allowing each site to be:
This would allow us to:
There'll probably be a lot more to it, but of course if it's already been done I'm not going to re-invent the wheel! |

Mark, I don't know of any site like this, but I like your idea of keeping a storehouse of all of the personal development bloggers, as well as a way of adding to the list and voting on specific sites. I'll take a look around and see if I can add a functionality like this to my Personal Development Partners site. There has to be a way to make a "mini social network" out of this. I'll definitely do some research and see what I can come up with. |

Stumbleupon is great, but like Digg it's too general. One of the great things that Priscilla's list did was to foster a sense of community amongst the PD bloggers. That feeling is significantly diluted on a site such as Digg or Stumbleupon because it's clearly not just about personal development (and related topics). Also, I can't seem to get Stumbleupon to show a browsable list (other than the few top pages for any specific tag). In other words, it doesn't provide the service Priscilla's list does, in any form (that I'm aware of). Digg can through its search, but like Stumbleupon it focuses on individual pages. But that's just my opinion. |
