Great blog post Steve, I've been doing alot of work to overcome identifying myself with my emotions. I particularly liked the movie analogy you used. I can relate to that real well

Of all of our beliefs there is none so powerful as disbelief. While the reading Joy of Sadness I remembered the theory that when we participate in a movie we suspend our disbelief. We join in the fantasy and allow our emotions to follow those of the main characters. This in itself is a tool that we can all use in our everyday lives. Not only can we suspend our disbelief but we can also suspend our limiting beliefs. Personally, I do not subscribe to linguistic constructs separating man into parts. Our identity is whole. We are not separately rational, spiritual, emotional or physical. We are energy and will return to the energy soup that exists beyond physical experience. There is too much made of separation as though we can be totally rational. Denying our emotions does not rid us of them. It only makes us sound foolish. But, having said that, I do believe that we can think, as Steve suggests, as having a separate objective observer watching us squirm as we go through our daily lives. That is a useful tool for self-awareness. I'll continue this on my on blog http://themeaningisyou.com Last edited by SelligJH; 09-04-2007 at 08:01 PM. Reason: Spelling errors |

raccaldin36: Tranquility and Passion I say, "Tranquility is objective, standing on a rock watching a waterfall. Passion is subjective, riding the waterfall from the cliff to the splash, and thrilling all the way down. Tranquility is harmony, the resonance of a single note from the piano. Passion is power, the reverbrations of drumbeats in a marching band.... Tranquility is a bubbling brook, a river running its course. Passion is a whirlpool, rapids, the eroding away of the banks and the rocks. Tranquility is the sky, simple and beautiful. Passion is the storm, a tornado, a hurricane."
