I'm coming up on 1000 posts here now and practically all of them have been fantastic, shouldn't I and all the other wonderful people who keep this thing humming be getting some kind of profit sharing deal or a weekly cheque or something??? I don't need the new house, I just got one, but I think something is in order for us daily contributors. I also notice that a senior member is one with over 100 posts, what happens when I tip over 1000 do I get Gold Member status?? As you well know my posts and replies are solid and informative, not the '2 lines and an ad' crud. Actually I think 1000 posts is probably a Platinum Member? Platinum Member Max Power |

I think the reward is that you get to contribute, and a free ego boost to go along with it too. I bet if you came up with a viable model, instead of just saying "give me money please" then he might listen. What would be the benefit if Steve did that? If quantity were the criteria then people would be racing to post crap. And thus the quality of the forums would go down. What is it that attracted you to these forums in the first place? It probably wasn't the prospect of getting paid. Quote:

Hehe, such denial is this crude matter, my human avatar. I can't let go of my ego, for some reason I'm very attached to it Did you ever see my poll?? and this last post, they really surprise me because I keep thinking I'm a smart little consciounsess, but then I realise I'm still a self indulgent maniac. Stupid ego! D'oh I don't know who I love more, my superior being or my crazy lunatic avatar "Good people of SP forum, trust that I will stay ever vigilant for the only way forward is together" Max PS I'd still like that gold star though |

It makes no sense. It's like saying I went to the swiming pool and because I'm a good swimmer and people saw how to swim better because of me and I don't piss in the pool, then the pool should give me some of their money.

Yeah max I agree! I am coming up on the thousand Mark in a hundred-odd posts and, I won't lie my earlier contribution was poor, but now look at me! I deserve some little badge or something...don't I? |

Let's see, find all the highest posters and then evaluate them to see if what they wrote was excellent and then divy up some dough based on judgements made by who? Steve? Or he will hire some people to do this judgement. That will make some in this forum compete for best of and volume if they see $$ in their eyes. Or even if it was done by vote it's another uncontrolled thing since only those that care would vote and there'd be some regular posters that would be the voters. Anyway, do you guys really think Steve is willing to resort to this kind of stuff? Please tell me you guys aren't serious about this getting a cut of Steve's web site money just because you are on a high horse about your posts. If you think you have value in what you've writen then take it to the streets, find a market of people who are interested and maybe they'll want to pay you something.

Yeah, I didn't frame my intent properly I love posting here and have met some awesome people, but as I have a rather large ego, it needs pandering to sometimes I don't want money from Steve, but I do think there should be different levels of membership, like when I get to 1000 I want a gold star, when I get to 5000 I want a Platinum star or membership level. I don't post to raise my post numbers, I'm always amazed how much I post Yes, I know some people post just for the sake of ads, but that's not me, well that's not my primary purpose. So if I was out of line, if I crossed the line then I apologize to everyone and to Steve. From an ego POV it's about recognition and I get that everyday, so it's all good, sometimes I forget that though. Max PS Steve, don't forget 1000=Gold 5000=Platinum |

I think this thread is just a mind exercise, not necessarily a serious one. But what called my attention was the fast critic response. Why? - If this blog is the first to ask for a donation. - If there is an article that recommends Agloco which in turn promotes that what gives value to a blog or site (such as youtube.com, facebook.com, ...) is precisely their audience and contributors. - Maybe if one respected group, as the one that runs this blog/forum, is capable of doing so much good; and observing some posts that talk about creativity, imagine how much can the aggregated contribution of many readers can do. Has anyone read "The Tipping Point"? Why Google paid so much for YT if the already had Google Video? Because of the community. Some times you contribute more because you raised a big community. But that not *necessarily* is proportional or in direct relation to what you are contributing. It may be that it tipped. Harry Potter novel may have contributed to the world, but not necessarily N times more than some other books (research papers, Nobel Price winners or 2nd places, successful blogs, written masterpieces, ...), they just happened to reach the tipping point. |

People take ownership of communities for they feel they built them, which they have, but often people get frustrated because they expect more for doing more. Look at Google, it's nothing without website owners, but the perception is that it's the king and we're the slaves, is that right? Is it wrong? We supply the content they get all he traffic and filter some of it down to us. Is that the best way to reward the users? There's adwords so it's more palatable, but is this the best way for 80+ million website owners to get what they want? I think it 5-10 years, someone, somewhere is going to come up with a better way that favors website owners more and where it's better for the web user too Of course when that happens it will be extremely popular and Google will buy them out Max

Max, Steve shouldn't pay you because why would he pay you when you are doing it for free now? The free market dictates this. If you decided that you didn't want to post then you wouldn't. You readily started and continue to post. Something other than money motivated you. If you work at a job and are getting paid 20 bucks an hour you have the choice to stay working at that job or ask for a raise. If your boss refuses and you stay at $20 per hour, that is what you are worth. A product or a service is only worh what someone is willing to pay. As for Steve, you posting for free and will continue to do so, because you are getting a pay-off obviously. |

I suffer from all the human traits..........greed, passion, anger, love, charity, anger you name 'em, I got 'em. In a way that's kind of the point isn't it, not to just better ourselves, but to accept ourselves. I should start my own blog, but I hear it's a lot of work Max

Max - you spend a lot of time posting. You might want to instead increase your reading time so that you can figure how to deal with the problems of your ego wanting a gold star from the inside, instead of dealing with it from the outside.

OK, I calmed down from being critical of the idea that posters could have a share. My reaction was based on some assumption of what this forum is about. That it's about sharing freely and not having judgments on worth. I guess there's a built in judgment because some threads just die out of democracy, but some threads that don't die are running nuts with flames going. It's an interesting idea but can't see the practical way that it would work. The best real idea was to put a donate button on your signatures. Still, forums are not like books or individuals' blog with ads. |

That's hilarious! Who said you would leave if you have your own blog? What I am saying is that it would give you a more focused and targeted venue for your ideas and theories. Think about it!

What? Haven't you got your money from Steve yet? I have, about 250 USD and it keeps coming! SP did not exactly take this cash from his wallet and placed it in my hand. I made this money my myself with the Help of Steve. I got this money in 3 ways: -Hands on advice. There is a lot of concrete info on how to build a website on SP.com -Inspiration. Steve has taught me to think more like a business man and to see opportunities. -Imitating. So much. Studied how adds are places, code is written and so on. I think you already have a great idea. If you have written over 1000 posts it is about time that you start your own blog and make money there.
