My all-time favourite:

"You can give up control, but you can't give up responsibility. Responsibility will still be yours".

I don't remember the exact sentence, but this is what it meant. And it changed my way of looking at the world.

Here lies John, who passed away
While answering his email one day.
No friend, no child, no loving mate
Could keep poor John from working late.
With each new mail, he worked like hell
To click ”reply” instead of “del.”
A prompt response he’d always give
But somehow he forgot to live.

From conscious procrastination -- a great article by the way, so for those who haven't read it, do so now... or later.

I agree with Natsu on "You can give up control, but never responsibility." It has to be the number one quote on this site, at least for me. There are many that give me a good chuckle, but there are too many to remember. Here's to many more meaningful quotes.

Goes to show that there is never anything new under the sun... Buddha said it one way... Steve said it another way... and I say, "Si quelqu'un t'offre un présent et que tu le refuses... à qui appartient-il...???" (French for, “If someone offers you a gift, and you decline to accept it, to whom does the gift belong?”)

This is my favorite quote by far:
How do you know whether or not you qualify as smart? Here’s a good rule of thumb: If you have to ask the question, you aren’t.
That makes me laugh every time.

"I feel it’s best to decide for myself what’s worth living for and what isn’t. I don’t feel the need to have those choices programmed into me by others. But in order to install my own software, I first had to uninstall the bug-ridden operating system that was pre-loaded at the factory — the one that includes the following programs: Get a Job, Make Money, Buy Stuff, Watch TV, Buy More Stuff, Obey, Do What Others Do, Buy Better Stuff, Retire Quietly, Die."

Well, I've just found Steve's work tonight for the first time and this one quote in the first article I read will probably be with me for a very long time:

Quote:
Negative people have an endless supply of pity party invitations. If you receive one, don’t RSVP.
ROFL! I just LOVE it! I know I've attended a few too many of those parties!

"Time is going to pass anyway."

Always inspires me.
And I beleive this one comes from Steve directly, not rephrased from other sources (such as Buddha's "if you do not accept the gift, to whom it belongs?")

Ufff... When I was little I grew up thinking I was weak and stupid. I used to think it so that whenever I tried to do an intelligence test, I'd quickly give up, and I'd got "retarded" results.

I met some person who taught me to be strong, who taught me not to be afraid, and who opened my eyes to my potential. I don't know if I had always been clever or I got smarter just thinking I could be... Intelligence tests went up from 29 to 117 and then to 135. And then I stopped doing them because they were limiting.

Sometimes you think you are not smart, and maybe you are just shy, scared or afraid. Though... When you think you are not, point is in reality you are not. So I suppose the sentence is right enough.

It’s as if getting a job somehow drains all the free will out of people and turns them into spineless cowards. Today it’s wage slavery. Even well-paid white collar workers are falling into this trap. -Steve Pavlina.

From Article: Knowing When to Break a Commitment:

Quote:
If I make a commitment at one level of awareness and then reach a new level of awareness where that commitment is clearly wrong, then I will break that commitment. If this gets you bent out of shape, then you probably don’t want me in your life. It’s best not to read this blog then. It’s not a question of what’s merely right for me; I think hard about what’s best for the highest good of all. In this case it’s very clear to me that completing my software book would not be for the highest good of all. If that means I damage my credibility with a few people in the process, then I’ll pay that price.
This is my attitude and has been such for as long as I can remember. Seeing it written out so concisely and so eloquently had a major impact on me.

Business, especially the entertainment industry, is not for the timid. If you base all your business deals on hard logic and ignore your intuition, most likely you’ll be in for a world of hurt.
