| EDIT My belief system is none. I classify myself as a Free Thinker. This means I'm not a Buddhist, a Christian, or any other Belief. I posted this here, simply as additional info about SR. __________________________________________________ _______________ The following is from the Pali Canon, considered to be the earliest sources of the mystic Siddharta. (In the Pali language Siddharta (Pāli: Siddhatta), means “he who achieves his aim”. I actually stumbled upon this yesterday. It's an interesting and different perspective on SR. "I will teach you the origination of the world & the ending of the world. Listen & pay close attention. I will speak." "As you say, lord," the monks responded to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: "And what is the origination of the world? Dependent on the eye & forms there arises eye-consciousness. The meeting of the three is contact. From contact as a requisite condition comes feeling. From feeling as a requisite condition comes craving. From craving as a requisite condition comes clinging/sustenance. From clinging/sustenance as a requisite condition comes becoming. From becoming as a requisite condition comes birth. From birth as a requisite condition, then aging & death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, & despair come into play. This is the origination of the world. "Dependent on the ear & sounds there arises ear-consciousness. The meeting of the three is contact... Dependent on the nose & aromas there arises nose-consciousness. The meeting of the three is contact... Dependent on the tongue & flavors there arises tongue-consciousness. The meeting of the three is contact... Dependent on the body & tactile sensations there arises body-consciousness. The meeting of the three is contact... Dependent on the intellect & mental qualities there arises intellect-consciousness. "And what is the ending of the world? Dependent on the eye & forms there arises eye-consciousness. The meeting of the three is contact. From contact as a requisite condition comes feeling. From feeling as a requisite condition comes craving. Now, from the remainderless cessation & fading away of that very craving comes the cessation of clinging/sustenance. From the cessation of clinging/sustenance comes the cessation of becoming. From the cessation of becoming comes the cessation of birth. From the cessation of birth, then aging & death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, & despair all cease. Such is the cessation of this entire mass of stress & suffering. This is the ending of the world. | Before the Pali Canon thingy, I found this here. Snippet. "What if I told you that “you” were absolutely necessary for the Universe to exist within your perception of reality? What if everything you perceive is a creation of and an extension of your own sense of self as a sentient form of life. What if your Universe was completely dependent on you being aware that it exists? That’s absurd, I here you say........" |

I like to search thru everything and find jewels. Yeah the followers are, but I'm beginning to think the original mystic Siddharta had a different message, and of course it gets all screwed up thru translations. Example. I was suprised to find this quote by Siddharta. “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.” |

| It would be more interesting if it wasn't so boring, cryptic and focused on confusion. I dislike ancient, mystic ramblings for the sheer fact they come from humans who think they are more important than the people they wish to share with. Wearing a sheet and sitting on a mountain top for 20 years and then telling anyone who wants to listen, that they figured it all out and here's how it is, that doesn't help me. Too mystic, too abstract and zealotness. Max |
