Shutting Down the Forums

Elfwing 12-21-2011 07:45 PM

Oh no. :( What happened? I don't often come here except to discuss articles sometimes.

I'll be really sad to see this place go, but it's your place to do with as you will, Steve, and thank you for being upfront with us. Lots of hugs.

Okay steve, I'm ready and I see the others are ready as well. We can tell them now.. http://www.stevepavlina.com/forums/f...its-funny.html

I look forward to the new adventures that life has to offer. Thanks for building a great forum that has acted as a springboard for the rest of my life.

I've had situations in life where things just didn't work anymore, so in that respect, I get it. There really isn't much sense in being apologetic about it, and others will make their own decisions either way.

I hope you find greater happiness in 2012.

-Tim

Think I just found out what happened. I don't know if you're reading this Steve (I wouldn't blame you if you're not), but lots of hugs. Lots and lots and lots of hugs. You seem really stressed and I hope you take care of yourself especially well over the next few days, you need it. Take care.

Le Roi 12-21-2011 08:03 PM

Steve,

If you turn it into a read-only, will the signatures stay attached? What about Avatars? If so, will we be able to remove them or change them later? Or will it be like everyone is banned and thus all avatars and signatures get removed?

frenchguy 12-21-2011 08:19 PM

I just... DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED !

I wasn't an active member, so can anyone explain to me why is Steve shutting down the forum?

Plays With Life 12-21-2011 08:22 PM

Thanks, Steve! All the best to you. I love new beginnings. :D

I hope you're OK with me posting a place for people to stay connected. I made a Yahoo Group specifically for people from this forum who want to stay in touch. That will at least give people a place to continue communicating, and possibly coordinate a new community space if people want to do that. The group is here - totallyawesomepeople : Awesome People

He got tired of it.

We'll meet again. Farewell!

NSS 12-21-2011 08:29 PM

I don't post much, but for what it's worth I agree with the decision to shut it down. Hopefully you can archive some of the better threads if not the whole forum as read only for the people starting out in personal development. Although many of us outgrew the forums, it was a priceless resource for me the first couple of years in PD.

Thanks everyone for all the stuff you guys have posted. I really wouldn't be who I am today without these forums.

You might reconsider if you stop to think about the amount of traffic you get here, and how much of that is solely because of the forums. Honestly, I haven't read a pavlina blog article in forever, and whenever I come to this site, I go immediately to the forums. I feel like it'd be almost the same as Dunkin Donuts getting rid of all their coffee and donuts and expecting to still make a profit. I don't go to Dunkin Donuts for the turkey sandwiches. I don't come here for the blog articles. This site was all about the forum. Now that's over so I guess the site's over.

That's not the case for many people and anyway steve doesn't make any money from the forums since it has no ads. The only cash he's making is from the affiliate stuff + I guess the publicity he makes for his workshops do have a decent value.

Beingist 12-21-2011 08:46 PM

I read it, Steve, and I totally understand every word of it. It is perfect, and I wouldn't change any of it, and I wouldn't have the events be any other way.

Once again, thanks for setting up the forum, and thanks for letting us post here. I will indeed miss the place, but there are other forums, and in the end, change is a good thing. Glad I got to experience the place, and because of it, I have grown phonomenally.

Also, thanks to everyone with whom I've participated.

Au revoir

Cochonette 12-21-2011 09:08 PM

Awwww, man. I am going through a break-up situation wherein it was more the other person resolving to end it. And your perspective must be rather like hers: deciding to quit dating me to move on to more congruent things. :( It's hard for me to deal with this, but perhaps thinking of it this way can help me to move on.

Laurenaus 12-21-2011 09:10 PM

sucks. This forum provides so much help and value for different people, i guess as soon as it didn't provide enough for you you got over it. Wonder how Erin would feel about this???

It is the forum which is organized in the best possible way. I don't know any other forum like this one. Very well made for reading. No spam. Anybody can find here a lot of information they need and are interested in. The community is great. It's like a big family, I felt it like this. A company of friends. I don't know how forums are created and run, but if it's possible to keep it, it will be so much appreciated by many.
--this was written by a poster

and it's all true, ive been on many forums and none attract the kind of members this one does, a really unique mix of people here, or is as user friendly, or with as great of a format which makes reading so easy.

I'm sorry that more people didn't object to it shutting down, perhaps if there more people who voiced their appreciation instead of hearing arguments from the Angela Fan Club (Criseyde), and PS lots of people DO NOT KNOW WHO ANGELA IS OR FEEL A LOSS FROM HER BEING BANNED, this wouldn't have concluded the way it did.

newmark 12-21-2011 09:17 PM

Thanks for the forums Steve, but it's a shame you're closing them. I think they continue to help many people. I am glad you don't intend selling, as you're right, I wouldn't want my email getting into spammers' hands.

waizen 12-21-2011 09:23 PM

I guess this is my last chance to say to you: thank you for everything. Really, I mean it. You were really a big part of my recent spiritual growth.

I hope, from the bottom of my heart, that you continue in your greatness. Be well and be happy.

newmark 12-21-2011 09:26 PM

I just read the introductions forum post. I guess this is what you are reacting to. I don't blame you for being unhappy about this. It was underhand - there's no question about that. And I'm surprised, a little, that they acted in that way. It doesn't show them in a good light.

But closing this forum is a reaction to this problem. But instant reactions are not always the best kind of reactions. Sack the mods and get new ones.

Jesann 12-21-2011 09:33 PM

As one of the people who has actually been helped here, I'm sorry to see the forums go. I really am.

Doncamatic 12-21-2011 09:35 PM

It's a shame that this had to happen. These forums was were I was introduced to the whole concept of PD.

Archiving a non-read will at least save some part of that, I guess.

wolfgang 12-21-2011 09:42 PM

thanks Steve for the forum

I got a lot out of being around. Helped me through some private issues I never even posted about, none the less.

I wonder how many will read a "read only" forum though...

BillyTheAdult 12-21-2011 09:49 PM

Thanks Steve, for everything you've done. It's touched a lot peoples lives.

well i know *I* will - since i've only been a member a few weeks, there's years of stuff here that i'd still LOVE to read through, and which i know will be immensely useful and valuable to me.

zephra 12-21-2011 10:08 PM

Thank You

Thank You Steve, and best wishes to you in your new adventures. Ruth

Goldhart23 12-21-2011 10:25 PM

Thank you, Steve & others who've helped me!

Steve,
I have always considered this forum the best one out there, because whenever I had a problem or question, someone was always there for me, usually immediately. Sorry I've been so busy lately in life that I haven't visited in a while, and now I'm sorry to see the forum close down. I perfectly understand your reasons for doing so (since reading about what happened, in the Intros section). It was the "being covert" about it that I also believe was wrong on their parts. Anyway, I'll look around now to see if I can help answer any questions before this forum is closed. Thanks again to Steve and other forum members for all your help here...
Love-n-hugs,
*Barb*

This is the end of the world! And it's not 2012 yet! :(

invisiblehouses 12-21-2011 11:29 PM

My only regret is that I'll never get to see my rep bar get beyond "glorious beacon of light"...
