Very interesting, this is something I'm learning right now too. It's often tempting to sacrifice a little bit of who we are to appeal to more people, but it's never satisfying or fulfilling. I think we do best when we are completely who we are. I think I have some upcoming articles that may shake some things up a bit… |

Steve, thanks for being you! You drive me crazy sometimes but I love you anyway! Seriously, though. I disagree with you often. Sometimes what you say makes me angry. But I really respect you and your methods and by being you, without shame, you teach me to accept people's differences and to accept myself for who I am, too. I'm terrified of disapproval. And by doing what you do, you're teaching me to accept people even when I disapprove of them, and to stop fearing disapproval of others so much. So thank you. Keep being you! :P (On another note, what you've been saying on Twitter lately's been amusing the hell out of me. Usually I'd be offended at least one or two things, but I've learned to tell when you're doing it on purpose. |

After seeing the title of this article I was extremely hesitant to read it, as anyone who has worked in retail would be. But I'm glad I bit the bullet and proceeded anyway. I have found that using a false persona in order to please others drains a lot of energy, both physical and mental. I am no expert in evolutionary biology, but I am sure that the ability that we as humans have to pretend to be somebody/something we are not was only ever meant to be used in short bursts, perhaps to blend in to the environment and escape predators and such. |
